Electrical and Pharmacologic Cardioversion for Atrial Fibrillation

Medical Clinics of North America, 2008
This article describes electrical and pharmacologic cardioversion for atrial fibrillation and discusses indications for cardioversion and management of pericardioversion anticoagulation. Finally, management strategies are offered for immediate recurrence of atrial fibrillation and cardioversion failure.

Transient myocardial injury after elective electrical cardioversion

International Journal of Cardiology, 1994
A patient with recent myocardial infarction underwent elective direct current countershock because of atrial fibrillation. After several shocks, the ST segments were strikingly raised throughout the precordial leads, which disappeared with the administration of a perfusion of nitroglycerin.

Meta-analysis of Clinical Outcomes of Electrical Cardioversion and Catheter Ablation in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation and Chronic Kidney Disease.

Current pharmaceutical design, 2018
BACKGROUND Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with adverse outcomes in presence of atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the literature shows limited data on non-pharmacological management of AF in CKD patients.

Electrical cardioversion for atrial fibrillation and flutter

2002
Atrial fibrillation increases the risk of stroke, increases the risk of cognitive impairment, and adversely affects cardiovascular haemodynamics. Electrical cardioversion for atrial fibrillation has been in use since the 1960s; the rationale is that restoration of sinus rhythm improves cardiovascular haemodynamics, reduces the risk of stroke, and ...

[Electrical cardioversion for atrial fibrillation].

Deutsche medizinische Wochenschrift (1946), 2010
Electrical cardioversion ist often the treatment of first choice for restoring sinus rhythm in patients with atrial fibrillation. This article reviews the management of patients undergoing electrical cardioversion. As risk of formation of an intra-atrial thrombus formation is low after a short duration of AF (less than 48 h), immediate cardioversion ...

[Electrical cardioversion after quinidine administration].

Revista espanola de cardiologia, 1991
The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of quinidine on the effectiveness of electrical cardioversion (CV) for the reversion of supraventricular arrhythmias, the amount of electrical energy necessary for the CV and the possible complications of electrical CV.

Electric cardioversion of atrial fibrillation.

Missouri medicine, 2010
Electrical cardioversion (EC) has been performed for atrial fibrillation (AF) for over 40 years. EC is safe, effective and reliable method for aborting AF especially in unstable situations. Numerous technical and patient characteristics contribute to the success of EC.
