A New Impedance Measurement System for PZT-Based Structural Health Monitoring

open access: yes, 2009
Recent research has shown that electromechanical (E/M) impedance-based techniques are an efficient strategy for damage sensing in the context of structural health monitoring (SHM).

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Soft Mechanical‐Electrical Logic Using Liquid Metal‐Filled 3D‐Printed Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present 3D‐printed soft mechanical–electrical logic elements that use liquid metal–filled silicone tubes actuated by thermoplastic polyurethane/polylactic acid (TPU/PLA) architectures to produce Boolean operations. Complementary normally open and normally closed unit cells perform repeatable binary transitions and can be combined into more complex ...

Temperature effect on space charge dynamics in XLPE insulation

open access: yes, 2007
This paper reports on space charge evolution in crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) planar samples approximately 1.20 mm thick subjected to electric stress level of 30 kVdc/mm under four temperature 25 oC, 50 oC, 70 oC and 90 oC for 24 hours.

Evaluation of Plasticity and Creep Parameters From Tensile Stress–Strain Data for a Range of Strain Rates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This plot compares experimental tensile stress–strain curves (with 4 different strain rates) and corresponding modelled curves (obtained using the optimised sets of Voce and Miller–Norton parameter values shown). The inferred M‐N values, characterizing the creep, are very similar to those obtained via conventional creep testing.

Multi-Channel Monitoring System with Nanosecond Resolution for Intermittent Faults in Electrical Connectors

open access: yesInventions
Intermittent faults in electrical connectors refer to cases in which contact resistance exceeds a specified threshold for microseconds or less, causing transient power or signal interruptions. Accurate detection and quantitative recording of these events

Lightning Impulse Ageing of HV Cable Insulation

open access: yes, 2009
Lightning impulses can lead to accelerated ageing of extruded cables. Electrical behaviour of a dielectric material when experiencing a lightning impulse is different to that for DC or power frequency applied voltages.

Measurement accuracy verification of phasor measurement unit with dynamic phasor estimation

open access: yes, 2018
Power systems that are highly loaded, especially by a stochastic supply of renew- ables and the presence of storages, require dynamic measurements for their optimal control.

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

An enhanced electrical resistance technique for foam drainage measurement

open access: yes, 2001
The ability to characterise the drainage behaviour of foams is of direct value to the design of foaming systems and control of foam structures. Traditional electrical resistance methods for characterising foam drainage do not take into consideration the ...
