Characterization of shallow groundwater in Eocene sediments of Panama Canal Watershed using electrical techniques

open access: yesRevista de I + D Tecnológico, 2012
This work is focused on the detection of seepages caused by the affluent located in a small area of the Panama Canal Basin during the dry season, and to define the subsurface stratigraphy (Eocene sediments) that characterize this area through a ...

Geoelectrical Surveys for Characterization of the Coastal Saltwater Intrusion in Metapontum Forest Reserve (Southern Italy)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Geophysics, 2012
A geoelectrical survey was carried out in the Metapontum Forest Reserve located along the Ionian coast of the Basilicata region (Southern Italy). In this work we used the method of two-dimensional electrical resistivity tomography for obtaining high ...

A convolutional neural network approach to electrical resistivity tomography

open access: yesJournal of Applied Geophysics, 2020
Abstract Electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) is an ill-posed and non-linear inverse problem commonly solved through deterministic gradient-based methods. These algorithms guarantee fast convergence toward the final solution but hinder accurate uncertainty assessments. On the contrary, numerical Markov Chain Monte Carlo algorithms provide

Imaging of a fluid injection process using geophysical data - A didactic example [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
In many subsurface industrial applications, fluids are injected into or withdrawn from a geologic formation. It is of practical interest to quantify precisely where, when, and by how much the injected fluid alters the state of the subsurface.

Identification of high-permeability subsurface structures with multiple point geostatistics and normal score ensemble Kalman filter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Alluvial aquifers are often characterized by the presence of braided high-permeable paleo-riverbeds, which constitute an interconnected preferential flow network whose localization is of fundamental importance to predict flow and transport dynamics ...

Geophysical characterization of derelict coalmine workings and mineshaft detection: a case study from Shrewsbury, United Kingdom [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A study site of derelict coalmine workings near Shrewsbury, United Kingdom was the focus for multi‐phase, near‐surface geophysical investigations. Investigation objectives were: 1) site characterization for remaining relict infrastructure foundations, 2)

Measuring lung resistivity using electrical impedance tomography [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, 1992
We propose the use of electrical impedance tomography (EIT) imaging techniques in the measurement of lung resistivity for detection and monitoring of apnea and edema. In EIT, we inject currents into a subject using multiple electrodes and measure boundary voltages to reconstruct a cross-sectional image of internal resistivity distribution.

Time-lapse capacitive resistivity imaging: a new technology concept for the monitoring of permafrost [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The British Geological Survey, in partnership with the Universities of Sussex and Bonn, is investigating and seeking to prove a new technology concept for the non-invasive volumetric imaging and routine temporal monitoring of the thermal state of ...

Estimation of the hydraulic parameters of unsaturated samples by electrical resistivity tomography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In situ and laboratory experiments have shown that electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) is an effective tool to image transient phenomena in soils. However, its application in quantifying soil hydraulic parameters has been limited.

Closing the phenotyping gap with non-invasive belowground field phenotyping [PDF]

open access: yesSOIL
Breeding climate-robust crops is one of the needed pathways for adaptation to the changing climate. To speed up the breeding process, it is important to understand how plants react to extreme weather events such as drought or waterlogging in their ...
