Electrical Measurement of Stresses

Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, 1943
ECONOMY in the use of engineering materials calls for a very accurate knowledge of the stresses arising in machinery and structural parts. The forces acting on the part are frequently impossible to determine and vary in their effect according to their static or dynamic nature.

Electric Stresses in Cables

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers. Part III: Power Apparatus and Systems, 1962
Two theories of electrical failures in cables, at test voltages, are presented; one, known as the maximum stress theory, is based on critical potential gradients, and the other, known as the ballast theory, is based on critical current densities.

Stress relaxation in an electrical connector

Proceedings of the IEEE Southern Tier Technical Conference, 2003
It is noted that the relaxation stress greatly affects the reliability of electrical connectors. For proper functioning, adequate normal force must be maintained. Insulation displacement connectors (IDCs) promise increased economy over conventional electrical connectors; therefore, a high-reliability IDC has great potential in sophisticated office and ...

Stress/electrical scaling in ferroelectrics

Journal of Applied Physics, 2009
The present paper introduces a scaling law correlating three factors of ferroelectric materials in quite simple functions: the polarization (P), the electrical field (E), and the stress (T). The law is based on the physical symmetries of the problem and renders it possible to express the mechanical stress (T) as an electric field equivalent {Eeq=Th[P(E=

Dirty electricity, chronic stress, neurotransmitters and disease

Electromagnetic Biology and Medicine, 2013
Dirty electricity, also called electrical pollution, is high-frequency voltage transients riding along the 50 or 60 Hz electricity provided by the electric utilities. It is generated by arcing, by sparking and by any device that interrupts current flow, especially switching power supplies.

Electric Stresses in a HVDC Cable Through Joint

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1984
Longitudinal and radial stresses in a hvdc cable through joint are computed using a finite difference method. The joint and associated cable are rated at 266 kV d. c., 1200A and assumed buried to a depth of l.lm in homogeneous soil of thermal resistivity 1.2 deg C-m W-1.

Electric stress and heat transfer

British Journal of Applied Physics, 1959
Apparent contradictions in published reports of the effect of electric stress on heat transfer in fluids have been resolved by small-scale experiments and by reanalysis of available data. The effect of deliberately mixed unidirectional and alternating stress has been investigated for the first time.

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator for Stress Incontinence

Journal of Urology, 1981
It has been shown that some patients with stress incontinence after prostatectomy may have significant improvement with electrical anal stimulation. The use of a transcutaneous stimulator is the easiest and least invasive method to try initially. Results may be quite satisfying whether the mechanism is physiologic or placebo.

Electric Field Exposure and Evidence of Stress in Mice

Environmental Research, 1994
The effect of stress induced by an electric field on the adrenal gland cortex of mice was examined by means of corticosterone serum assay and evaluation of the lipid profile of the different zones of the cortex. Six generations of experimental mice were exposed to a 10 kV/m electric field from conception and corresponding control groups were sham ...

MIM capacitance variation under electrical stress

Microelectronics Reliability, 2003
Abstract Due to strong requirement in term of capacitance voltage linearity, MIM capacitance stability during the whole operating lifetime of the product appears to be a key issue to warrant the reliability of this device. Using a constant current stress, two effects can be noticed on the evolution of the stressed C–V characteristics: a voltage shift
