Benefits of electricity generation
Engineering Science & Education Journal, 1997The essential role that electricity is seen to play in the development of society results in substantial market and associated nonmarket benefits. Examination of the relationship between total energy consumption and wealth creation and between electricity generation and wealth creation suggests that the benefits of electricity generation are at least ...

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1993
Noting that electric power demand will continue to increase, although less rapidly in industrialized nations, the author examines the future trends in the conversion area, moving from rotating generators toward additional electrochemical and renewable energy devices. He discusses the increasing utilization of non-grid-connected renewable energy sources

Electricity generation - shaft generator
2001During the 1980s the use of shaft generators in conjuction with two-stroke diesel engines rapidly became a popular method of producing electric power for the various electricity consumers on board ships. In this paper the individual types of shaft generators are defined and their physical configuration is described together with the diesel engine.

An Introduction to Electricity Generation
2014The history of the electricity industry can be traced back to the 19th century and the work of pioneering scientists of that era. The industry in its current form began to develop during the early years of the 20th century, based on fossil fuel and hydropower power stations delivering power across a hierarchical grid system.

Thermionic generation of electricity
British Journal of Applied Physics, 1961A thermionic generator of electricity is essentially a diode valve in which electrons emitted from a hot cathode flow to a cooler anode, producing an electric current. From being scientific curiosities, such devices have become the subject of intense research activity in the last three years, and it is now clear that they have considerable ...

Generators in atmospheric electricity
pure and applied geophysics, 1964The definition of a ‘generator’ in atmospheric electricity is considered, and various phenomena are discussed as to whether they can be described as ‘generators’.
