Electroactive biofilms

2014
Electroactive bacteria are microorganisms that are able to exchange electrons with a conductive solid material (particles, macroscopic conductive surfaces, electrodes). In other words, they are capable of accepting/giving electrons from/to an electrode, an insoluble substrate for the bacteria, and thus able to produce some ...

Genetic analysis of electroactive biofilms

International Microbiology, 2021
Geobacter biofilms synthesize an electroactive exopolysaccharide matrix with conductive pili and c-cytochromes that spatially organizes cells optimally for growth and electron transport to iron oxide substrates, soluble metal contaminants, and current-harvesting electrodes.

Biocompatibility of electroactive polymers in tissues

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, 2000
The biocompatibility of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVAc), polyethylene (PE), and polyaniline (PANi) films in the emeraldine (EM), nigraniline (NA) and leucoemeraldine (LM) intrinsic oxidation states were assessed through subcutaneous implantation into male Sprague-Dawley rats beneath the dorsal skin, for a period ranging from 19 to 90 weeks ...

Electroactivity in Polyaniline

Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals Science and Technology. Section A. Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals, 1992
Abstract Twenty years ago, if someone had asked for a material with which they could fabricate a yoghurt pot, as quickly as they could with polyethylene, but had the electrical properties as if it were made of aluminium, both chemists and physicists would have laughed them away.

Hysteresis in dielectric electroactive polymers

SPIE Proceedings, 2009
In this paper experimental results indicating the presents of hysteresis in the acrylic tape VHB 4910 produced by 3M are presented. It is shown that there are large stress relaxation times associated with this material making it difficult to separate viscoelastic effects and hysteresis.

Electroactive Polymers and Macromolecular Electronics

Science, 1986
Electrodes can be coated with electrochemically reactive polymers in several microstructural formats called sandwich, array, bilayer, micro-, and ion-gate electrodes. These microstructures can be used to study the transport of electrons and ions through the polymers as a function of the polymer oxidation state, which is essential for understanding the ...

Electrocatalysis using electroactive polymers, electroactive composites and microheterogeneous systems

The Analyst, 1994
Recent progress in the development of polymer-based materials for use as electrocatalysts and as amperometric sensors is discussed. Single component and multicomponent polymer based systems are described, and theoretical approaches recently developed to quantify the steady state amperometric current response are discussed.
