Pyroelectric response of ferroelectric nanoparticles: size effect and electric energy harvesting

open access: yes, 2009
The size effect on pyroelectric response of ferroelectric nanowires and nanotubes is analyzed. The pyroelectric coefficient strongly increases with the wire radius decrease and diverges at critical radius Rcr corresponding to the size-driven transition ...

Robust Ferroelectricity in Micrometer–Thick Ce:HfO2 Films

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, Volume 11, Issue 19, November 18, 2025.
This manuscript presents a 3–µm–thick Ce:HfO2 ferroelectric film with distinctive {111} –preferred, single–crystal–like columnar grains with embedded nanopores. Raman characterizations reveal that the film contains an orthorhombic phase fraction of ≈21% (25 °C) and exhibits a Tc of ≈400 °C.

In the search of new electrocaloric materials: Fast ion conductors

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2015
We analyse the effects of applying an electric field on the critical temperature at which superionicity appears in archetypal fast ion conductor CaF2, by means of molecular dynamics simulations.

Synthesis‐Driven Functionality in High‐Entropy Materials

open access: yesSmall, Volume 21, Issue 44, November 6, 2025.
This review explores how synthesis techniques shape the structure, morphology, and functional properties of high‐entropy materials for energy and electronic applications. By comparing diverse methods through nine key criteria and linking them to material performance, the work offers a practical framework to guide synthesis selection for targeted ...

Large electrocaloric effect in Ba(Ti1−xSnx)O3 ceramics over a broad temperature region

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2015
A large electrocaloric effect (ECE) near room temperature is reported in Sn doped BaTiO3 ceramics. By tuning Ba(Ti1−xSnx)O3 compositions which also exhibit relaxor ferroelectric response to near the invariant critical point, the Ba(Ti1−xSnx)O3 bulk ...

Efficient Cooling System Using Electrocaloric Effect

open access: yesJournal of Electronics Cooling and Thermal Control, 2016
The electrocaloric effect in thin films of an electrocaloric material has the potential to be used for efficient cooling systems for high power electronic devices. We numerically calculated the effect of parameters in electrocaloric refrigeration with a thermal switch of fluid motion on the thermal performance. The system of changing air and water

A Simulative Evaluation of Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Structures in the Context of Elastocaloric Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 20, October 2025.
A simulative evaluation of triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) structures for an elastocaloric application under compressive load is performed. For the evaluation of the structure's performance, surface/volume ratio, generated heat and invested mechanical work are taken into account and are compared to a tube as a reference specimen.

Positive and negative electrocaloric effect in BaTiO$_3$ in the presence of defect dipoles

open access: yes, 2016
The influence of defect dipoles on the electrocaloric effect (ECE) in acceptor doped BaTiO$_3$ is studied by means of lattice-based Monte-Carlo simulations. A Ginzburg-Landau type effective Hamiltonian is used.

Boosts in Polarization and Piezoelectric Responses of Lead‐Free Ferroelectrics through Strain‐Enhanced Glassy Coexistent Polars with High Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 37, October 6, 2025.
An effective strategy by constructing strain‐enhanced glassy coexistent polars near ferroelectric tricritical point to simultaneously improve polarization response and reduce energy loss is uncovered in (Ba0.84Ca0.16)0.985Bi0.01(Ti0.9Zr0.07Sn0.03)1‐x/100Hfx/100O3 (xHf) system and verified by phase‐field simulations with supporting high resolution ...

Showcasing the Structure and Properties of Lanthanide‐Doped BaTiO3

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, Volume 4, Issue 9, September 2025.
Understanding the defect chemistry of Ln‐doped BTO, as well as the distribution of Ln ions inside the BTO host, is a challenge in the study of functional perovskite oxides. It provides important insights into the future development of Ln‐doped BTO materials, particularly in the context of low‐carbon transition strategies and renewable technologies that
