Characterization of Macro/Microstructure and Corrosion Resistance of Austenitic Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Cladding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cladding is a proven method that boosts the surface qualities of mechanical parts by applying a layer of more durable material over a base substrate. This work responds to the needs of offshore and pressure vessels sectors by focusing on cladding a super austenitic steel onto low‐carbon steel through gas tungsten arc welding.

Sodium salt of dodecyl benzene sulphonic acid as an effective corrosion inhibition for different heat-treated steel in sulphuric acid medium

open access: yesMaterials Research Express
The purpose of this work is to use electrochemical and gravimetric techniques to investigate the inhibition of DBSS on the corrosion of heat-treated dual-phase AISI 1040 steel in a 0.5 M sulphuric acid solution at 35 °C.

Synergistic Mn-Co catalyst outperforms Pt on high-rate oxygen reduction for alkaline polymer electrolyte fuel cells

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Alkaline polymer electrolyte fuel cells are promising power sources, but performance is limited by catalytic activity. Here the authors report a non-precious metal-based catalyst for electrocatalytic oxygen reduction that imparts outstanding fuel cell ...

Electrochemical corrosion studies [PDF]

open access: yes
The objective was to gain familiarity with the Model 350 Corrosion Measurement Console, to determine if metal protection by grease coatings can be measured by the polarization-resistance method, and to compare corrosion rates of 4130 steel coated with ...

Enhancing methane production from food waste fermentate using biochar. The added value of electrochemical testing in pre-selecting the most effective type of biochar [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: Recent studies have suggested that addition of electrically conductive biochar particles is an effective strategy to improve the methanogenic conversion of waste organic substrates, by promoting syntrophic associations between acetogenic and ...

Impact of Pre‐Oxidation Treatments on a Recycled MgO/Steel‐Composite as Carbon Free Anode in Aluminum‐Electrolysis Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cermets (60 vol.% AISI 316L stainless steel, 40 vol.% recycled MgO), intended for use in aluminum electrolysis, were pre‐oxidized in three furnaces with different heating technologies and subjected to a cryolite corrosion test. The different atmospheres influenced the formation of oxide layers, which in turn affected corrosion resistance and ...

Electrochemical studies of corrosion inhibitors [PDF]

open access: yes
The effect of single salts, as well as multicomponent mixtures, on corrosion inhibition was studied for type 1010 steel; for 5052, 1100, and 2219-T87 aluminum alloys; and for copper.

Microstructure Design of Steel‐Spinel Composites via Spark Plasma Sintering Process

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study illustrates how spark plasma sintering at reduced oxygen partial pressure enables controlled formation of steel‐spinel composites through tailored redox reactions and cation exchange. Comparison of the MgO–Fe2O3, steel–(MgO+Cr2O3), and steel–(MgO+Fe2O3) systems shows how oxygen activity and interface chemistry govern spinel formation, phase ...
