Distribution of Injected Power Fluctuations in Electroconvection [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2003
We report on the distribution spectra of the fluctations in the amount of power injected into a liquid crystal undergoing electroconvective flow. The probability distribution functions (PDFs) of the fluctuations as well as the magnitude of the fluctuations have been determined in a wide range of imposed stress both for `unconfined' and `confined' flow ...

Charge injection enhanced natural convection heat transfer in horizontal concentric annuli filled with a dielectric liquid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The natural convection heat transfer in a highly insulating liquid contained between two horizontal concentric cylinders is shown by two-dimensional numerical simulations to be noticeably enhanced by imposing a direct current electric field.

Triple Diffusive Convection in a Fluid Layer Under an A.C Electric Field

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematical Physics, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
The effect of an imposed alternating current (A.C) electric field on the onset of convective instability in a horizontal triply diffusive fluid layer is investigated. Analytical solutions are obtained for steady and oscillatory onset when imposed gradients of the stratifying agencies are constant and vertical.

Weakly Nonlinear Analysis of Electroconvection in a Suspended Fluid Film

open access: yes, 1997
It has been experimentally observed that weakly conducting suspended films of smectic liquid crystals undergo electroconvection when subjected to a large enough potential difference.

Surfactant-Switched Positive/Negative Electrorheological Effect in Tungsten Oxide Suspensions

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
The electrorheological (ER) effect was experimentally observed in dielectric suspensions containing tungsten oxide (WO3) modified with surfactant molecules (sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and dodecylamine (DDA)) in electric fields up to several kilovolts ...

Electrically driven convection in a thin annular film undergoing circular Couette flow

open access: yes, 2000
We investigate the linear stability of a thin, suspended, annular film of conducting fluid with a voltage difference applied between its inner and outer edges. For a sufficiently large voltage, such a film is unstable to radially-driven electroconvection

The Effect of Bulk Modification of the MF-4SK Membrane with Phosphorylated Hyper-Branched Dendrimer Bolthorn H20 on the Mechanisms of Electroconvection/Dissociation of Water and Specific Selectivity to Divalent Ions

open access: yesElectrochem
This study focuses on the modification of ion-exchange membranes by incorporating a phosphorylated dendrimer into sulfonated polytetrafluoroethylene membranes to enhance the specific selectivity between mono-/divalent ions, using the Ca2+/Na+ pair as an ...

Mass Transfer Phenomena during Electrodialysis of Multivalent Ions: Chemical Equilibria and Overlimiting Currents

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
Electrodialysis is utilized for the deionization of saline streams, usually formed by strong electrolytes. Recently, interest in new applications involving the transport of weak electrolytes through ion-exchange membranes has increased. Clear examples of

Impact of noise on domain growth in electroconvection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The growth and ordering of striped domains has recently received renewed attention due in part to experimental studies in diblock copolymers and electroconvection.
