Distribution of Injected Power Fluctuations in Electroconvection [PDF]
We report on the distribution spectra of the fluctations in the amount of power injected into a liquid crystal undergoing electroconvective flow. The probability distribution functions (PDFs) of the fluctuations as well as the magnitude of the fluctuations have been determined in a wide range of imposed stress both for `unconfined' and `confined' flow ...

Charge injection enhanced natural convection heat transfer in horizontal concentric annuli filled with a dielectric liquid [PDF]
The natural convection heat transfer in a highly insulating liquid contained between two horizontal concentric cylinders is shown by two-dimensional numerical simulations to be noticeably enhanced by imposing a direct current electric field.

Triple Diffusive Convection in a Fluid Layer Under an A.C Electric Field
The effect of an imposed alternating current (A.C) electric field on the onset of convective instability in a horizontal triply diffusive fluid layer is investigated. Analytical solutions are obtained for steady and oscillatory onset when imposed gradients of the stratifying agencies are constant and vertical.

Weakly Nonlinear Analysis of Electroconvection in a Suspended Fluid Film
It has been experimentally observed that weakly conducting suspended films of smectic liquid crystals undergo electroconvection when subjected to a large enough potential difference.

Surfactant-Switched Positive/Negative Electrorheological Effect in Tungsten Oxide Suspensions
The electrorheological (ER) effect was experimentally observed in dielectric suspensions containing tungsten oxide (WO3) modified with surfactant molecules (sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and dodecylamine (DDA)) in electric fields up to several kilovolts ...

Electrically driven convection in a thin annular film undergoing circular Couette flow
We investigate the linear stability of a thin, suspended, annular film of conducting fluid with a voltage difference applied between its inner and outer edges. For a sufficiently large voltage, such a film is unstable to radially-driven electroconvection

Impact of noise on domain growth in electroconvection [PDF]
The growth and ordering of striped domains has recently received renewed attention due in part to experimental studies in diblock copolymers and electroconvection.
