Dynamic modelling of the potential habitat loss of endangered species: the case of the Canarian houbara bustard (Chlamydotis undulata fuerteventurae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this work, we apply a dynamic modelling approach to analyse the habitat loss of the Canarian houbara bustard (Chlamydotis undulata fuerteventurae). This tool allows us to assess the effects of the socio-economic and environmental interactions on the

Comparative attraction of Anopheles quadriannulatus and Anopheles arabiensis to humans estimated by comparing their relative abundance in samples of mosquito larvae and adults collected across an ecologically heterogeneous landscape in southern Tanzania Utafiti wa kulinganisha mvuto wa mbu aina ya Anopheles arabiensis na Anopheles quadriannulatus kwa binadamu katika mandhari yenye mazingira mbalimbali kusini mwa Tanzania

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 39, Issue 4, Page 726-740, December 2025.
Light and barrier traps near human activity selectively captured more Anopheles arabiensis, indicating a strong attraction to humans and explicit bias in adult sampling methods. Traps placed in open glades away from humans captured species proportions similar to larval samples, suggesting reduced sampling bias in those settings. Visits by entomological

Spatio‐Temporal Colony Dynamics and Roost Tree Preferences of Indian Flying Fox, Pteropus medius, in Jhapa, Nepal

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 6, November 2025.
Active colonies exhibited a decline in colony size, particularly during winter, followed by gradual growth in spring, peaking in summer or autumn, indicating a winter migration pattern. Larger colonies prefer roosting sites with widespread groves that offer better protection from human disturbances.

Identifying Small‐Displacement Stereotypical Behavior of Captive Slow Lorises Based on AnimalYOLO‐Bytetrack Network

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2025.
This study analyzes small‐displacement stereotypical behaviors of multiple captive slow lorises and proposes a new method that utilizes automatic tracking and the analysis of the cyclical changes in movement amplitude. By employing the AnimalYOLO‐Bytetrack multi‐target tracking network to monitor and quantify the movements of slow lorises, a detection ...

Mapping priority areas to mitigate the risk of electrocution of range‐restricted bird species

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 10, Page 2787-2799, October 2025.
Our study proposes a framework to identify areas with higher electrocution risk, which can be used even in data‐scarce regions or adapted to a multi‐species assessment context. This approach can support proactive strategies for energy companies with an initial assessment identifying areas to avoid installing new power lines, evaluating sites for ...
