Associations between maths ability mindset, maths task preference and physiological responses to feedback during an arithmetic task across two primary school years

open access: yesBritish Journal of Educational Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Students' mindsets, reactions to feedback and learning‐related behaviour are important for academic success, yet little is known about how these factors and their interconnections develop during primary school. Aims To explore longitudinal associations between students' mindsets, physiological responses to performance feedback, and ...

Electrodermal activity in patients with persistent insomnia [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, 1994
SUMMARY  In order to evaluate daytime arousal in patients with persistent insomnia, electrodermal activity (EDA) was measured in a habituation paradigm (21 tones, 80 dB, 1s) in forty patients with persistent insomnia and in twenty normal subjects. Results showed that the patients had higher EDA than the controls implying a higher arousal level in the ...

A balance between stability and flexibility: Adaptive patterns of self‐regulated learning processes shape game‐based learning

open access: yesBritish Journal of Educational Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract To ensure learning efficiency in game‐based learning (GBL), learners must regulate cognitive, affective, metacognitive and motivational (CAMM) processes, collectively known as self‐regulated learning (SRL). SRL is dynamic and non‐linear, characterized by regulatory patterns and CAMM interactions that lead to macro‐level SRL behaviours. In this

A continuous measure of phasic electrodermal activity

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience Methods, 2010
Electrodermal activity is characterized by the superposition of what appear to be single distinct skin conductance responses (SCRs). Classic trough-to-peak analysis of these responses is impeded by their apparent superposition. A deconvolution approach is proposed, which separates SC data into continuous signals of tonic and phasic activity.

Research Review: A scoping review exploring the needs, barriers, and facilitators to the collection of biological data in adolescence for mental health research

open access: yesJournal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, EarlyView.
Background There is increasing recognition of the challenge of representativeness in data, including economic, social, and ethnic diversity, in biological mental health research. This is a particular challenge in adolescence, where brain and body development are impacted by the environment.

Emotion anticipation and processing in depression: Behavioral, neural, and physiological reactivity

open access: yesEuropean Psychiatry
Background Depression is characterized by disturbed emotion processing, with aberrant neural and physiological responses to emotional stimuli. Here, we applied an emotion anticipation and processing paradigm to investigate brain neural and electrodermal ...

Affective CT‐touch attenuates cortical responses and subjective attention during temporal summation of second pain

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend The study investigated the modulatory effects of affective touch on temporal summation of second pain (TSSP) in 32 romantic couples (N = 64). The design included a dyadic session (partner's CT‐optimal stroking vs. static touch) and an individual session (robotic CT‐touch vs. vibration control).

Exploring the Role of Alexithymia in the Relationship Between Childhood Trauma and Premenstrual Syndrome

open access: yesDevelopmental Psychobiology, Volume 68, Issue 5, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a common and often debilitating condition characterized by emotional, cognitive, and physical symptoms that significantly impact well‐being. Research suggests that childhood trauma is associated with heightened PMS symptoms, yet the mechanisms underlying this relationship remain unclear.

Alexithymia in Anorexia Nervosa, More State Than Trait? A Multi‐Dimensional Assessment of Emotion Processing in Patients With Anorexia Nervosa, Recovered Patients and Healthy Controls

open access: yesEuropean Eating Disorders Review, Volume 34, Issue 5, Page 1402-1411, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective Alexithymia is implicated in both development and maintenance of Anorexia Nervosa (AN). It is unclear what defines alexithymia in AN. In this study, emotion processing related to alexithymia was examined. Method 40 patients with AN, 43 recovered (RC) patients and 35 matched healthy controls (HC) filled out questionnaires on eating ...

The Effect of Intolerance of Uncertainty on Indecisiveness in Anxiety and Obsessive‐Compulsive Disorders

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Psychology, Volume 82, Issue 9, Page 1327-1339, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives Intolerance of uncertainty (IU) describes a dispositional aversion to uncertainty. Recent research has identified IU as a causal contributor to pervasive decision difficulties (indecisiveness). Given that IU and indecisiveness occur across mental disorders, understanding whether IU's causal role in indecisiveness extends to clinical
