Two methodologies for brain signal analysis derived from Freeman Neurodynamics

open access: yesFrontiers in Systems Neuroscience
Here, Freeman Neurodynamics is explored to introduce the reader to the challenges of analyzing electrocorticogram or electroencephalogram signals to make sense of two things: (a) how the brain participates in the creation of knowledge and meaning and (b)

A Virtual Clinical Trial of Psychedelics to Treat Patients With Disorders of Consciousness

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Disorders of consciousness after severe brain injury are marked by reduced complexity of brain activity and limited treatment options. Using personalized whole‐brain models, this study shows that simulated lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and psilocybin shift patient brain dynamics closer to criticality.

Olfactory‐to‐Entorhinal Network Dysrhythmias Drive Parkinson's Cognitive Impairment Through Frequency‐Specific Oscillatory Decoupling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Wang et al reveal that in the olfactory system, the selective impairment of gamma‐driven Barcode features underlying early olfactory deficits, while the selective impairment of theta‐driven Barcode features underlying later cognitive deficits, further establishing cross‐network gamma oscillations in the early stage as a biomarker of later cognitive ...
