Transport Properties and Electrokinetic Characterization of an Amphoteric Nanofilter

Langmuir, 2006
Transport properties of a tubular nanofilter with amphoteric properties have been investigated by means of the SEDE (steric, electric, and dielectric exclusion) homogeneous model. Within the scope of this 1D model, the separation of solutes results from transport effects (described by means of extended Nernst-Planck equations) and interfacial phenomena

Electrokinetic Properties

1997
Cations and anions adsorbed by soil particles carrying surface charges are not present totally on the surface of the particles. Actually, in a soil-water system, a portion of adsorbed ions is distributed near the surface, forming an electric double layer at the interface between the solid particle and the liquid phase.

Electrokinetic Properties of Fuzzy Colloidal Particles

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2000
The presence of a thin polymer layer on the surface of a colloidal particle can have a profound effect on its electrophoretic mobility. The model developed here treats the hydrodynamics of the polymer layer as a distribution of Stokes resistance centers within a thin diffuse layer; fixed charge may reside on the surface of the particle core or ...

Energy-dependent changes of the electrokinetic properties of chloroplasts

Biochemistry, 1980
Free-flow electrophoresis of spinach chloroplasts reveals that illumination causes a marked increase of net negative surface charge. The light stimulation is most pro- nounced in broken chloroplasts, missing the outer envelope membranes. Broken chloroplasts, prepared in the presence of MgCl2, showed a much larger light stimulation (90-12Ph) than if ...

Effects of surface conduction on the electrokinetic properties of colloids

Journal of the Chemical Society, Faraday Transactions, 1992
To quantify the effects of surface conduction behind the slip plane on the electrokinetic transport properties of colloids, we have extended the thin-double-layer theory of Fixman for dilute sols of spherical particles. The computations show that it causes the static conductivity and the low-frequency dielectric response of the sol to increase and the ...

Electrokinetic properties of hydroxyapatite under flotation conditions

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2010
The effect of calcite supernatant, calcium, and carbonate ions on the hydroxyapatite (HA) zeta potential without and in the presence of sodium oleate (1x10(-4) mol L(-1)) was examined within the pH range from 4 to 12. The interpretation of results was based on the HA surface and oleate solution chemistry, and on some floatability tests.

The Electrokinetic Properties of Colloidal Magnetic Iron Oxides

Langmuir, 2012
A novel electrokinetic streaming potential technique has been used to determine the ζ potential behavior of three magnetic iron oxides, (Fe(3)O(4), γ-Fe(2)O(3), and CoFe(2)O(4)) as a function of pH and salt concentration. These colloidal materials, (nanosize in one dimension), are held in the form of a plug by means of external magnets.

Changes in the electrokinetic properties of platelets during their aggregation

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1966
Abstract The electrophoretic mobility of human blood platelets suspended in plasma or standard saline has been examined. The mobility of the human platelet in standard saline at pH 7 is −0.85 μ per second per volt per centimeter with an isoelectric point approximately at pH 3.6.

Physicochemical and electrokinetic properties of silica/lignin biocomposites

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2013
A new method of synthesis of novel composites obtained from silica and Kraft lignin has been proposed. Silica used in the study was obtained by three methods (hydrolysis and condensation of tetraethoxysilane, precipitation in a nonpolar and polar medium with the use of sodium silicate).

[Electrokinetic properties of Arthobacter siderocapsulatus].

Mikrobiologiia, 1980
The electro-kinetic properties of Arthrobacter siderocapsulatus were determined using microelectrophoresis in alternating electric field. The surface of bacterial cells was shown to bear positive charge within a wide range of pH. The positive charge of the cells should be attributed apparently to the presence of mucous capsules containing manganese ...
