Electrokinetic Instability Micromixing

Analytical Chemistry, 2001
We have developed an electrokinetic process to rapidly stir micro- and nanoliter volume solutions for microfluidic bioanalytical applications. We rapidly stir microflow streams by initiating a flow instability, which we have observed in sinusoidally oscillating, electroosmotic channel flows.

Electrokinetics of heterogeneous interfaces

Advances in Colloid and Interface Science, 2004
The influence of surface heterogeneity of various types on electrokinetic parameters is reviewed. The scope of the paper covers classical electrokinetic phenomena characterized by linear dependence of electrokinetic parameters vs. related driving forces. Neither non-linear effects nor the effects of non-equilibrium electric double layer are considered.

Electrokinetic Phenomena in Montmorillonite

MRS Proceedings, 2000
AbstractClays present remarkable electrokinetic features since they exist from very dilute colloidal state to nanoporous materials, according to the ration water/clay. The case of low volume fraction Vwater/Vtot which corresponds to compact systems is examined.

A macroion electrokinetics algorithm

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2006
A numerical algorithm is presented for the standard model of macroion electrokinetics and certain generalizations of it. The macroion consists of a cylindrical section with identical, hemispheroidal endcaps, each piece having arbitrary length. The system of one macroion and adjoining salt solution is subjected to an arbitrary sequence of pulsed ...

Micellar Electrokinetic Chromatography

2018
Micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) is a mode of capillary electrophoresis that allows for the separation of neutral molecules in an electric field. Typically, neutral molecules move with electroosmotic flow (EOF) or bulk flow during electrophoretic separations resulting in no temporal resolution between mixtures of neutral analytes ...

Electrokinetic flows in a microdomain

Physical Review E, 2003
The discrete kinetic approach and diffuse-reflection type boundary conditions are adopted to solve the transport problem for many charged particles flowing along a microslab (or channel of a wide constriction within a confined slender microdomain). The preliminary results show that there are selected orientations related to the nontrivial velocity-slip

Electrokinetic Energy Conversion

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1964
Energy conversion by the mechanism of electrokinetics is investigated. A device capable of converting either electrical power into pumping power or pumping power into electrical power in the steady state is studied. The basic equations coupling voltage, pressure, current and flow rate are established and simplified in the light of existing experimental
