Fabrication of Excitation Coils for Electromagnetic Microactuators
2011A key component for electromagnetic micro devices is the coil. Exposing it to an electric current results in exciting a magnetic field. The three coils most commonly used in microactuators are the meander, the planar spiral, and the helical type. For fabricating these coils in thin-film technology a combination of photolithography (for creating a ...

Transverse Electromagnetic (TEM) Surface Coils for Extremities
2011High-field RF volume coils for the human limbs and heads are commonly formed from rigid cylinders. For extremity imaging this design often requires using larger one-size-fit-all volume coils that decrease transmission efficiency and SNR. Splitting the coil solves this problem by providing tighter fit.

Quadrature Transverse Electromagnetic (TEM) Surface Coils
2011At high fields (above 4 T) constructing volume coils for human head and body imaging is difficult due to lower efficiency (B1/(P)1/2) and higher power deposition. Alternatively, surface coils, while providing high efficiency due to substantially smaller excitation volume, generate a strongly inhomogeneous B1 field.
