Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Electromagnetic signatures of far-field gravitational radiation in the 1+3 approach [PDF]

open access: yesClass. Quantum Grav. 32, 015011 (2015), 2014
Gravitational waves from astrophysical sources can interact with background electromagnetic fields, giving rise to distinctive and potentially detectable electromagnetic signatures. In this paper, we study such interactions for far-field gravitational radiation using the 1+3 approach to relativity.

On relativistic wave equations for particles of arbitrary spin in an electromagnetic field

open access: yes, 1939
The investigations of Dirac (1936) on relativistic wave equations for particles with arbitrary spin have recently been followed up by one of us (Fierz, 1939, referred to as (A)) It was there found possible to set up a scheme of second quantization in the

An Examination of Aerosol Jet‐Printed Surface Roughness and its Impact on the Performance of High‐Frequency Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores aerosol jet‐printed (AJP) surface roughness, its effects on the performance of microwave electronics, and its process contributors. First, an electromagnetic model is vetted for AJP's unique roughness signature. Simulations are built which show process‐induced roughness is as significant as conductor resistivity in driving microwave

Stress analysis of magnetically controlled reactor

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2017
To provide technique references for vibration reduction of magnetically controlled reactors (MCRs), stress, which is the inherent reason of vibration and noise, should be investigated.

Electromagnetic field effects on $\Upsilon$-meson dissociation in PbPb collisions at LHC energies

open access: yes, 2017
We investigate the effect of the electromagnetic field generated in relativistic heavy-ion collisions on the dissociation of $\Upsilon$ mesons. The electromagnetic field is calculated using a simple model which characterizes the emerging quark-gluon ...

Large‐Scale Interlaboratory Study Along the Entire Process Chain of Laser Powder Bed Fusion: Bridging Variability, Standards, and Optimization across Metals and Polymers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
What happens when 32 labs join forces to study nanoparticle‐modified powders? A data‐driven journey through laser powder bed fusion—now openly accessible for the entire additive manufacturing community—is studied. Laser powder bed fusion is a cornerstone technology for additive manufacturing (AM) of metals and polymers, yet challenges in achieving ...

Femtosecond Single‐ and Double‐Pulse Fabrication of Periodic Nanostructures on Stainless Steel for Surface‐Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Periodic submicron features are fabricated on 304 stainless steel using single and double femtosecond laser pulses. By adjusting polarization, fluence, and inter‐pulse delay, 1D and 2D nanostructures are formed. Enhanced hydrophobicity and dense surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy hotspots enable analyte detection down to 10−10 M with good ...
