Theoretical and experimental study of liquid infiltration propelled by electromagnetic pressure

open access: closedApplied Physics Letters, 2017
We demonstrate how the axial component of electromagnetic pressure, which is generated by the impulse current in solenoid coils, can propel infiltration of microchannels using molten metals. The generated electromagnetic pressure was theoretically studied, and the results were compared with the critical pressure calculated using the capillary law. Then,

Temperature-dependent electromagnetic shielding properties of SiCf/BN/SiC composites fabricated by chemical vapor infiltration process

open access: closedJournal of Alloys and Compounds, 2017
Abstract The SiC f /SiC composites with BN interphase were prepared by chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) process for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding applications at the temperatures from 25 °C to 700 °C in X band. The results reveal that the flexural strength of CVI-SiC f /BN/SiC composites can be up to 289 MPa, which shows an excellent ...

SiCN-based composite ceramics fabricated by chemical vapor infiltration with excellent mechanical and electromagnetic properties

open access: closedMaterials Letters, 2013
Abstract A novel SiCN ternary phase was introduced into porous Si 3 N 4 preform by chemical vapor infiltration from SiCl 4 –C 3 H 6 –NH 3 –H 2 –Ar, which was used to fabricate Si 3 N 4 –SiCN composite ceramics. SiCN was composed of amorphous Si 3 N 4 matrix and crystalline SiC nano-particles (with a homogeneous size of ~5 nm) uniformly distributed ...
