Electromagnetic response of ballistic metamaterials

Metamaterials, Metadevices, and Metasystems 2021, 2020
The electromagnetic response of ballistic metamaterials, metal-dielectric composites with the unit cell size smaller than electron mean free path, is defined by the surface scattering of the free electrons at the metal-dielectric interface.

Metamaterials in electromagnetics

Metamaterials, 2007
Abstract This article takes a look at metamaterials in electromagnetics from a general point of view. The terminology of complex electromagnetic materials is discussed critically. A unique definition for metamaterials does not exist, but certain salient points can be distinguished in the ongoing discussion within the research community and in various

Modeling of electromagnetic metamaterials

2010 International Conference on Electromagnetics in Advanced Applications, 2010
Numerical modeling and experiment have the same importance in revealing the unusual properties of electromagnetic metamaterails. On one hand, the numerical modeling can confirm the experiments on metamaterials; on the other hand, it can explore the properties of metamaterials in extreme conditions which cannot be performed experimentally. In this paper,

Electromagnetic induction in metamaterials

Applied Physics B, 2008
Electromagnetic induction in the context of metal nanostructures and metamaterials is discussed. Pitfalls in the description of the excitation of current modes in such structures are pointed out. Areas of concern include the lack of complete conduction loops and excitation by plane waves versus uniform fields.

Metamaterial Electromagnetic Cloak at Microwave Frequencies

Science, 2006
A recently published theory has suggested that a cloak of invisibility is in principle possible, at least over a narrow frequency band. We describe here the first practical realization of such a cloak; in our demonstration, a copper cylinder was “hidden” inside a cloak constructed according to the previous theoretical prescription.

Reconfigurable Electromagnetics Through Metamaterials—A Review

Proceedings of the IEEE, 2015
The introduction of electromagnetic (EM) media with unique field manipulation properties, collectively labelled as metamaterials, has boosted the interest toward the design, the fabrication, and the testing of artificial materials whose features can be engineered according to the applicative requirements and user objectives. In this framework, the long-

Electromagnetic Metamaterials—Promises, Design, and Applications

Quantum Matter, 2014
Since the year 2000 metamaterials attracted much interest. Fancy metamaterial applications such as the “perfect” Pendry lens and invisibility cloaks provided a boost of electromagnetic research. We outline difficulties associated with metamaterial design and consider metamaterial structures which are promising for industrial applications which will be ...

Design for electromagnetic wave transparency with metamaterials

Physical Review E, 2006
With the help of the "neutral inclusion" concept, the conditions of electromagnetic wave transparency for multilayered spheres, coated spheroids, and general particulate composites are analytically derived in the quasistatic case. The basic idea is to make the effective material property of a composite region equal to that of the surrounding medium ...

Metasurfaces and Metamaterials for Electromagnetics

IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation
Metamaterials (MTMs) and metasurfaces (MTSs) are engineered materials and surfaces constituted by a distribution of electrically small particles that collectively exhibit emerging properties that enable superior control over the electromagnetic field.

Electromagnetic Scattering Properties in a Multilayered Metamaterial Cylinder

IEICE Transactions on Communications, 2007
Electromagnetic scattering properties of metamaterial cylinders due to a line source are studied by a multilayer algorithm based on eigenfunctional expansion. Closed forms of electric and magnetic fields are formulated. Both the fields inside the cylinder and field in outer space are plotted for different sizes of the cylinder.
