Electromagnetic Coupling through Arbitrary Apertures in Parallel Conducting Planes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We propose a numerical methodto solve the problem of coupling through finite, but otherwise arbitrary apertures in perfectly conducting and vanishingly thin parallel planes.

Why Is the Mechanism Underlying the Chiral‐Induced Selectivity Effect Still Challenging?

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The chiral‐induced spin selectivity (CISS) effect is observed in many experimental configurations and for different materials. However, there are theoretical challenges in attempting to explain those results. A qualitative framework for explaining all the results is presented.

Generating Unconventional Spin‐Orbit Torques With Patterned Phase Gradients in Tungsten Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A key aim in spintronics is to achieve current‐induced magnetization switching via spin‐orbit torques without external magnetic fields. For this, the focus of recent work has been on introducing controlled lateral gradients across ferromagnet/heavy‐metal devices, giving variations in thickness, composition, or interface quality.

Characterising the heterogeneous nature of tufa mounds by integrating petrographic, petrophysical, acoustic and electromagnetic measurements

open access: yesThe Depositional Record
Determination of the physical properties of subsurface geological bodies is essential for georesource management and geotechnical applications. In the absence of direct measurements, this usually passes via geophysical methods such as seismic and ground ...

Programming of Complex Magnetic Profiles Enforced by 4D Printed Magnetic LCE Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A 4D printing‐enabled magnetic programming strategy is introduced in which thermally actuated liquid crystal elastomers are magnetized in their target shape to encode complex three‐dimensional magnetic profiles. The resulting actuators achieve multistate shape morphing and programmable locomotion under low magnetic fields, without requiring specialized
