Developing Safety Standards for Electromagnetic Energy: The IEEE International Committee on Electromagnetic Safety (ICES)

2006 International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2006
ICES develops (1) standards for the safe use of electromagnetic energy in the range of 0 Hz to 300 GHz relative to the potential hazards of exposure to humans, volatile materials, and explosive devices, (2) standards for products that emit electromagnetic energy by design or as a by-product of their operation, and (3) standards for environmental limits.

Electromagnetic Fields: Human Safety Issues

Annual Review of Biomedical Engineering, 2002
▪ Abstract  Most of the recently revised safety standards worldwide are set in terms of internal rates of electromagnetic energy deposition (specific absorption rates or SAR) at radio frequencies (RF) and microwave frequencies, and of induced electric fields or current densities at lower frequencies up to 10 MHz.

Electromagnetic Fields, Safety and Health

The 2006 4th Asia-Pacific Conference on Environmental Electromagnetics, 2006
Handling electric equipment may cause currents in the body and the methods and measures to protect people are accepted worldwide. However, the safety and health when exposed to electromagnetic fields which cause also currents in the body, is controversial. The actual guidelines and standards are using safety factors (SF) to protect people. To cope with
