Force and torque of an electromagnetically levitated metal sphere [PDF]

open access: yesQuarterly of Applied Mathematics, 1993
The Lorentz force and torque exerted on an electrically conducting sphere exposed to an external, time-varying magnetic field are analytically calculated. The external magnetic field is generated by a set of sinusoidally alternating, but otherwise arbitrary, current density fields of different frequencies and phases.

Magnetic Droplet Manipulation on Open Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Recent advances in the manipulation of magnetic droplets demonstrate various manipulations on open surfaces, including transport, splitting, merging, and force‐controlled motion, enabled by magnetic particles and external fields. ABSTRACT Manipulation of liquids on a smaller scale enables applications in various fields, particularly diagnostics and ...

A Proof‐of‐Concept Assessment of a Novel Wearable Eyelid Muscle Device: A Pre‐Clinical Animal Cadaver Study for Eyelid Closure Restoration

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article introduces a soft wearable eyelid sling device incorporating a hydraulic soft artificial muscle (SAM) for achieving complete closure of an eyelid. The SAM is driven by a cam mechanism that provides a displacement profile closely matched with those of a healthy eyelid.

Core-mantle coupling: Part I: Electromagnetic coupling torques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this report, we will present the complete derivation of analytical expressions of the EM coupling torque in dependence on the parameters of the fields contributing to it. For this, we choose a special set of spherically harmonic (SH) base functions and present all major steps of the derivation. Our report will be (i) closer to a lecture note than to
