Current frequency effect on electromagnetic tube expansion

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2020
The frequency of capacitor discharge current is an important parameter in the electromagnetic forming process. In the present work, simulation and experimental study of electromagnetic expansion is carried out on aluminium tubes (Al 5052). The aim is to obtain the optimum frequency of discharge current that gives maximum tube expansion at constant ...

Analysis of Electromagnetic Force and Deformation Behavior in Electromagnetic Tube Expansion With Concave Coil Based on Finite Element Method

IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, 2018
At present, the cylindrical coil is used to generate the electromagnetic force in electromagnetic tube expansion process. The obtained radial electromagnetic force in the end of the tube is less than the one in the middle of the tube for the end effects. Hence, the tube deformation is inhomogeneous in the axial direction.

Numerical and experimental investigation in electromagnetic tube expansion with axial compression

International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2019
In conventional electromagnetic tube expansion (EMTE), the wall thickness of the tube decreases significantly because the electromagnetic force is mainly in the radial direction. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a new method named electromagnetic tube expansion with axial compression (EMTEAC).

Numerical Modeling of Electromagnetic Tube Expansion and Formability Assessment

Key Engineering Materials, 2013
In the present paper, an EMF numerical model has been developed following an uncoupled approach, being the Lorentz forces acting on the workpiece estimated by solving Maxwells equations and then transferred to solve the mechanical problem. For formability analysis, a fracture indicator based on the linear forming limit diagram was applied through the ...
