Resonant absorption and amplification of circularly-polarized waves in inhomogeneous chiral media

open access: yes, 2016
It has been found that in the media where the dielectric permittivity $\epsilon$ or the magnetic permeability $\mu$ is near zero and in transition metamaterials where $\epsilon$ or $\mu$ changes from positive to negative values, there occur a strong ...

Light scattering by a medium with a spatially modulated optical conductivity: the case of graphene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We describe light scattering from a graphene sheet having a modulated optical conductivity. We show that such modulation enables the excitation of surface plasmon-polaritons by an electromagnetic wave impinging at normal incidence.

Multiband Switchable Microwave Absorbing Metamaterials Based on Reconfigurable Kirigami–Origami

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A reconfigurable metamaterial featuring tunable microwave‐absorbing and load‐bearing performance is proposed. Stretchable kirigami and bistable origami configurations are integrated as actuating components, and the synergistic deformation mechanisms are systematically analyzed.

Exploiting Two‐Photon Lithography, Deposition, and Processing to Realize Complex 3D Magnetic Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Two‐photon lithography (TPL) enables 3D magnetic nanostructures with unmatched freedom in geometry and material choice. Advances in voxel control, deposition, and functionalization open pathways to artificial spin ices, racetracks, microrobots, and a number of additional technological applications.

The Dynamics of Interfacial Trap States in High‐Detectivity Near‐Infrared Photomultiplication Organic Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Photomultiplication organic photodetectors (PM OPDs) are an attractive strategy for health‐monitoring. Here, PM‐OPDs are reported with a specific detectivity of 5.7 × 1012 Jones and external quantum efficiency values of 3500% under −10 V. The dynamics of carrier trapping in these devices are elucidated through trap selective spectroscopical techniques.

Quantum theory of the third-order nonlinear electrodynamic effects in graphene

open access: yes, 2016
The linear energy dispersion of graphene electrons leads to a strongly nonlinear electromagnetic response of this material. We develop a general quantum theory of the third-order nonlinear local dynamic conductivity of graphene $\sigma_{\alpha\beta\gamma\

Three‐dimensional Antimony Sulfide Based Flat Optics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents the development of a grayscale electron beam lithography (g‐EBL) method for fabricating antimony trisulfide (Sb2S3) nanostructures with customizable 3D profiles. The refractive index of g‐EBL patterned Sb2S3 is determined based on the synergy of genetic algorithm and transfer matrix method.

Boosting the performance of low‐cost eco‐friendly pyramidal absorbers with a Salisbury screen

open access: yesIET Microwaves, Antennas & Propagation
Instead of using expensive highly performing conventional pyramidal absorbers, in some cases, the use of absorbers based on very cheap eco‐friendly materials is an attractive alternative.

Resonance effects due to the excitation of surface Josephson plasma waves in layered superconductors

open access: yes, 2008
We analytically examine the excitation of surface Josephson plasma waves (SJPWs) in periodically-modulated layered superconductors. We show that the absorption of the incident electromagnetic wave can be substantially increased, for certain incident ...

Electromagnetic Wave Absorption Coating Material with Self‐Healing Properties [PDF]

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, 2017
AbstractElectromagnetic wave absorption coatings can effectively minimize electromagnetic radiation and are widely used in the military and civil field. However, even small scratches on the coating can lead to a large decline of absorption ability and bring serious consequences.
