Spatially Dependent Electromagnetically Induced Transparency [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2015
Recent years have seen vast progress in the generation and detection of structured light, with potential applications in high capacity optical data storage and continuous variable quantum technologies. Here we measure the transmission of structured light through cold rubidium atoms and observe regions of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT ...

Effects of neighboring transitions on the mechanisms of electromagnetically induced absorption and transparency in an open degenerate multilevel system

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
In this study, optical Bloch equations with and without neighboring hyperfine states near the degenerate two-level system (DTLS) in the challenging case of $$^{85}$$ 85 Rb D2 transition, which involves the Doppler broadening effect, are solved.

An extremely large group index via electromagnetically induced transparency in metamaterials [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications, 2014
We numerically demonstrate a planar design of a metamaterial exhibiting electromagnetically induced transparency at gigahertz frequencies. The design is based on the coupling of two oppositely oriented semi split-rings in the same plane.

Observation of Electromagnetically Induced Transparency [PDF]

open access: yesShort-Wavelength Coherent Radiation: Generation and Application, 1991
We report the results of an experiment showing how an opaque atomic transition in neutral Sr may be rendered transparent to radiation at its resonance frequency. This is accomplished by applying an electromagnetic coupling field (Fig. 1) between the upper state 4d5d1D2 of the transition and another state 4d5p 1D2 of the atom. When the Rabi frequency of

Electromagnetically induced transparency in optical microcavities

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2017
Electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) is a quantum interference effect arising from different transition pathways of optical fields. Within the transparency window, both absorption and dispersion properties strongly change, which results in ...

Metamaterial Analog of Electromagnetically Induced Transparency [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2007
We present a new type of electromagnetic planar metamaterial that exhibit strong dispersion at a local minimum of losses and is believed to be the first metamaterial analog of electromagnetically induced transparency. We demonstrate that pulses propagating through such metamaterials experience considerable delay, whereas the thickness of the structure ...

Electromagnetically Induced Transparency with Rydberg Atoms [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2011
We present a theory of electromagnetically induced transparency in a cold ensemble of strongly interacting Rydberg atoms. Long-range interactions between the atoms constrain the medium to behave as a collection of superatoms, each comprising a blockade volume that can accommodate at most one Rydberg excitation.

Microwave-assisted Rydberg electromagnetically induced transparency [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2018
We demonstrate electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a four-level cascade-like system, where the two upper levels are Rydberg states coupled by a microwave field. A two-photon transition consisting of an off-resonant microwave field and an off-resonant optical field forms an effective coupling field to induce transparency of the probe light.
