Electromagnetic and gravitational responses of photonic Landau levels [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 2019
Topology has recently become a focus in condensed matter physics, arising in the context of the quantum Hall effect and topological insulators. In both of these cases, the topology of the system is defined through bulk properties ('topological invariants') but detected through surface properties.

Maxwell-Hydrodynamic Model for Simulating Nonlinear Terahertz Generation from Plasmonic Metasurfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The interaction between the electromagnetic field and plasmonic nanostructures leads to both the strong linear response and inherent nonlinear behavior.

Electromagnetically induced transparency and photon-photon interactions with Rydberg atoms [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2012
We discuss electromagnetically induced transparency in a cold ensemble of atoms optically excited to the Rydberg states. Strong dipole-dipole or van der Waals interactions between the atomic Rydberg states translate into large nonlocal nonlinearities for a propagating probe field.

Large Horizontal Near-Field Scanner Based on a Non-Tethered Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of Antennas and Propagation, 2022
A horizontal planar scanner with an approximate size of 40 m $\times40$ m has been implemented using the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology. The UAV is not wired to the ground to maintain the flexibility and short setup time of a non-tethered ...

Optimization of Nanoparticle-Based SERS Substrates through Large-Scale Realistic Simulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) has become a widely used spectroscopic technique for chemical identification, providing unbeaten sensitivity down to the singlemolecule level. The amplification of the optical near field produced by collective

Electrical control of the linear optical properties of particulate composite materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The Bruggeman formalism for the homogenization of particulate composite materials is used to predict the effective permittivity dyadic of a two-constituent composite material with one constituent having the ability to display the Pockels effect ...

Local orbital-angular-momentum dependent surface states with topological protection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Chiral surface states along the zigzag edge of a valley photonic crystal in the honeycomb lattice are demonstrated. By decomposing the local fields into orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes, we find that the chiral surface states present OAM-dependent ...

Electromagnetism with magnetic charge and two photons [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physics, 1996
The Dirac approach to include magnetic charge in Maxwell’s equations places the magnetic charge at the end of a string on which the the fields of the theory develop a singularity. In this paper an alternative formulation of classical electromagnetism with magnetic and electric charge is given by introducing a second pseudo-four-vector potential, Cμ, in

Features of excited fields in a cavity resonator filled with a near-zero refractive index medium

open access: yesВісник Харківського національногоуніверситету імені В.Н. Каразіна. Серія: Радіофізика та електроніка, 2023
Background. Modern artificial media are capable of providing specially pointed electromagnetic parameters, such as a negative refractive index, or a near-zero refractive index.

Reduction of the model noise in non-linear reconstruction via an efficient calculation of the incident field: application to a 434 MHz Scanner [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Microwave tomography has been drastically boosted by the development of efficient reconstruction algorithms based on an iterative solution of the corresponding non-linear inverse problem.
