Optimization of Electrodialysis for Ammonium Removal From NH4Cl‐Doped Groundwater Samples Using the Response Surface Method

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 13, Issue 12, December 2024.
Response Surface Methodology (RSM) has proven its effectiveness in optimizing three key electrodialysis operational parameters for ammonium removal from groundwater in Kenitra, Morocco. The optimized parameters include a voltage of 14.17 V, an initial ammonium concentration of 1 mg/L and a demineralization rate of 70 %.

Electromembrane extraction of peptides based on charge, hydrophobicity, and size – A large‐scale fundamental study of the extraction window

open access: yesJournal of Separation Science, Volume 47, Issue 15, August 2024.
This study investigated the capability of electromembrane extraction (EME) as a general technique for peptides, by extracting complex pools of peptides comprising in total of 5953 different substances, varying in size from seven to 16 amino acids. Electromembrane extraction was conducted from a sample adjusted to pH 3.0 and utilized a liquid membrane ...

Modelling and cost analysis of hybrid systems for seawater desalination: Electromembrane pre-treatments for Reverse Osmosis

open access: yesDesalination, 2019
Abstract The need to reduce energy consumption in seawater Reverse Osmosis (RO) process has pushed research towards the development of new hybrid systems in which, for example, other membrane processes can be used to pre-treat seawater. Electrodialysis (ED) and Reverse Electrodialysis (RED) can act as a pre-desalting step before seawater enters the ...

Optimization of generic conditions for electromembrane extraction of basic substances of moderate or low polarity

open access: yesJournal of Separation Science, Volume 47, Issue 3, February 2024.
Generic electromembrane extraction (EME) methods were developed and optimized for basic analytes of moderate or low polarity, employing prototype conductive vial EME equipment. Two generic methods, B1 and B2, were devised for mono‐ and dibasic compounds with distinct polarity windows: 2.0 < log P < 6.0 for B1 and 1.0 < log P < 4.5 for B2.
