Electron beam irradiation of cellulose
Radiation Physics and Chemistry, 2009Abstract Using a 90 kW, 3 MeV Dynamitron™, the molecular weight of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) was reduced from 82,000 to 5000 Da with a dose of 100 kGy. The relative crystallinity of the MCC was reduced from 87% to 45% with a dose of 1000 kGy. The available surface area, an indication on how well cellulose will react with chemical agents, was ...

Electron trapping in electron-beam irradiated SiO2
Journal of Applied Physics, 1978In addition to the well-known positive space charge, electron irradiation of MOS capacitors with 25-keV electrons is shown to introduce additional uncharged electron traps into the oxide layer. These traps persist after most of the positively charged defects have been removed by the usual low-temperature (? °C) anneals. Their presence after this anneal

Electron beam irradiation modification of collagen membrane
Biomaterials, 2006A critical observation of reconstituted collagen membrane radiated by electron beam (EB) indicated that these collagenous fibers become cross-linked network when the irradiation is carried out in greater than melt temperature and nitrogen atmosphere. Studies on the membrane properties showed that glass transformation temperature (Tg) and melt point (Tm)

Thermal stability of electron beam-irradiated polytetrafluoroethylene
Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1997Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) was subjected to 1 MeV electron beam irradiation in air. The thermal stability and the degradation fragments of the irradiated polymer were studied in dependence on the radiation dose up to 4 MGy by thermogravimetric analysis coupled with mass spectrometry.

Blood irradiation with accelerator produced electron beams
Physics in Medicine and Biology, 2000Blood and blood products are irradiated with gamma rays to reduce the risk of graft versus host disease (GVHD). A simple technique using electron beams produced by a medical linear accelerator has been studied to evaluate irradiation of blood and blood products.

Degradation of hexachlorobenzene by electron beam irradiation
Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2007Hexachlorobenzene removal efficiencies in different solvents by electron beam irradiation were investigated. Several factors that might affect the removal efficiencies were further examined. At 10 kGy, HCB degradation value was 85.8% in the solvent of acetone:water mixture (20:80, v/v), while at the same dose, the reduction value of 42.6% was achieved ...

Intraoperatic electron beam irradiation in pancreatic cancer
Frontiers in Bioscience, 1998Intraoperative electron beam radiation therapy (IOERT) is a technique in which a single high fraction radiation treatment is administered at the time of surgery. Using IOERT, the total radiation dose delivered to a tumor can be increased since sensitive normal tissues are removed from the radiation field during the surgical procedure.

A compact low-energy electron beam irradiator
Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2002A new compact low-energy electron beam irradiator has been developed. The irradiator generates an electron beam to the air with energy variable from 35 to 80 keV and with a maximum current of 1 mA. The irradiation area is 30 x 30 mm2. A special irradiation port is developed for this low-energy irradiator.

Electron-beam irradiation of polymer bracket materials
American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 2011Electron-beam irradiation can be used to influence the properties of polymers. Electron beams cause cross-linking that enhances the molecular mass of the polymer; this leads to branched chains until, ultimately, a 3-dimensional network is formed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of electron-beam irradiation on polymer bracket materials ...

Quality of Electron Beam Irradiated Strawberries
Journal of Food Science, 1995ABSTRACT Fresh ‘Tristar’ strawberries were treated by electron beam irradiation to determine the effects on postharvest quality attributes and shelf life. The intensity of red color rated by sensory panelists decreased as irradiation dosage increased from 0 to 2 kGy.
