Unveiling Temperature Distribution and Residual Stress Evolution of Additively Manufactured Ti6Al4V Alloy: A Thermomechanical Finite Element Simulation

open access: yesMetals
The performance of the selective electron beam melting (SEBM) products depends on the SEBM-induced temperature and stress. Here, the thermomechanical finite element simulations are conducted to investigate the dynamic evolution of temperature and the ...

Robust Spot Melting by 3D Spot Arrangements in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes an approach to replace separately melted contours for spot melting in electron beam powder fusion. Adapting the spot arrangements close to the contour combined with stacking yields a comparable surface quality without the inherent challenges of separate contours, as demonstrated, by electron optical images and roughness measurements.

Dual-Material Electron Beam Selective Melting: Hardware Development and Validation Studies

open access: yesEngineering, 2015
Electron beam selective melting (EBSM) is an additive manufacturing technique that directly fabricates three-dimensional parts in a layerwise fashion by using an electron beam to scan and melt metal powder.

Design of modified plastic surfaces for antimicrobial applications: Impact of ionizing radiation on the physical and mechanical properties of polypropylene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Surface modification of polypropylene (PP) sheets was carried out by radiation induced graft polymer- ization of hydrophilic functional molecules such as N,N-dimethylacrylamide (DMA) and [2-methacry- loyloxy)ethyl] trimethylammonium chloride, which is a ...

Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...
