Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Phyllosphere of senescent crops as a microbial N2O source
Plant residues contribute to the nitrogen cycle in terrestrial ecosystems, as they are recognized as a nutrient source for soil microorganisms. However, the contribution of the microbial community in the phyllosphere of plant residues, such as senescent ...

The reductive decyanation reaction: an overview and recent developments
This review presents an overview of the reductive decyanation reaction with a special interest for recent developments. This transformation allows synthetic chemists to take advantages of the nitrile functional group before its removal.

Exchange in silicon-based quantum computer architecture
The silicon-based quantum computer proposal has been one of the intensely pursued ideas during the past three years. Here we calculate the donor electron exchange in silicon and germanium, and demonstrate an atomic-scale challenge for quantum computing ...

Electron transfer through exTTF bridges in electron donor–acceptor conjugates [PDF]
Rigid and soluble electron donor-acceptor conjugates combining exTTF and/or TTF as donors and C60 as acceptor have been synthesized; fluorescence and transient absorption measurements confirm the generation of charge-separated radical-ion pairs with lifetimes in the micros timescale.

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...

Theory of Primary Photoexcitations in Donor-Acceptor Copolymers
We present a generic theory of primary photoexcitations in low band gap donor-acceptor conjugated copolymers. Because of the combined effects of strong electron correlations and broken symmetry, there is considerable mixing between a charge-transfer ...

This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...
