The high-speed electronic computer of the U.S.S.R. Academy of Sciences (BESM)

open access: closedProceedings of the IEE - Part B: Radio and Electronic Engineering, 1956
BESM is the name given to the largest digital electronic computer of the U.S.S.R. The machine, which is of parallel-action type, can operate with numbers ranging from 2?31 to 2+31. The calculations are carried out up to the 9th decimal digit, this being the accuracy required in solving the great majority of scientific problems.

Applied electronics curriculum for Computer Science students

2011 IEEE EUROCON - International Conference on Computer as a Tool, 2011
Having solid knowledge of electronics is of major importance for a Computer Science (CS) student. The means for achieving a good level of understanding, especially of the practical aspects, is an ongoing issue (in the short time frame that is generally allocated for it in a CS program).

A water tower to introduce electronic engineering and computer science

Measurement, 2007
Abstract During the fourth semester, just before they have to choose among one of the engineering disciplines taught at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, students are confronted with four different practical problems, one per discipline. These problem based learning courses are intended to familiarize students with the most typical aspects of each ...

Electronic Computer Applications in Historical Science

Soviet Studies in History, 1962
Electronic computers have provided entirely new possibilities to solve numerous problems in the most varied fields of science and technology, and they have greatly influenced both the methods and the rates of speed at which research is done. This is due to the fact that fast general-purpose computers can operate at fantastic speeds.

An interfacing and electronics course for computer science majors

ACM SIGCSE Bulletin, 1987
A course suitable for inclusion in the Curriculum '78 recommendations [1] under Special Topics is described here. The course introduces students to microcomputer interfacing and digital electronics principles via preassembled breadboard projects. For each of the projects, students develop software control and learn circuit design principles. The course
