A computational roadmap to electronic drugs
A growing number of complex neurostimulation strategies promise symptom relief and functional recovery for several neurological, psychiatric, and even multi-organ disorders. Although pharmacological interventions are currently the mainstay of treatment, neurostimulation offers a potentially effective and safe alternative, capable of providing rapid ...

Free-electron properties of metals under ultrafast laser-induced electron-phonon nonequilibrium: A first-principles study [PDF]
The electronic behavior of various solid metals (Al, Ni, Cu, Au, Ti, and W) under ultrashort laser irradiation is investigated by means of density functional theory. Successive stages of extreme nonequilibrium on picosecond time scale impact the excited material properties in terms of optical coupling and transport characteristics.

First-principles calculations of hot-electron lifetimes in metals [PDF]
First-principles calculations of the inelastic lifetime of low-energy electrons in Al, Mg, Be, and Cu are reported. Quasiparticle damping rates are evaluated from the knowledge of the electron self-energy, which we compute within the GW approximation of many-body theory.

Well‐being on supportive techniques in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: from neurologists' perspective
Abstract Objective To investigate intercultural neurologists' perception of well‐being in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) using gastrostomy (PEG), non‐invasive, and/or invasive ventilation (NIV/IV) and to analyse the determinants and impact on the management of the above medical interventions (MIs).

Improving Fall Detection Using an On-Wrist Wearable Accelerometer
Fall detection is a very important challenge that affects both elderly people and the carers. Improvements in fall detection would reduce the aid response time. This research focuses on a method for fall detection with a sensor placed on the wrist. Falls
