Cooling dynamics of carbon cluster anions

open access: yes, 2015
A series of ion storage experiments on small carbon cluster anions was conducted to understand size-dependent cooling processes. The laser-induced delayed electron detachment time profile show clear even/odd alternation due to the presence of the ...

Unraveling the Electronic Structure of Silicon Vacancy Centers in 4H‐SiC

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The electronic structure of the silicon vacancy in 4H‐SiC is probed via transient absorption spectroscopy, uncovering previously inaccessible excited states of the quartet and doublet spin channels, including the V2' transition. In combination with theoretical analysis, a comprehensive picture of the electronic structure is established.

Glissile Interphase Boundaries Enable Collective Phase Switching in Epitaxial Polar Oxides

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A triple point is identified in the phase diagram of low‐symmetry epitaxial BiFeO3 thin film along with an extended regime of phase competition associated with a flattened energy landscape. The electromechanical response is shown to be governed by correlated interphase‐boundary motion, including scale‐free avalanche dynamics characteristic of systems ...

Unlocking Exceptional Strengthening in Aluminum Alloys via Interstitial Cottrell Atmosphere Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cyclic unloading‐aging‐reloading micro‐tensile tests under various aging durations and temperatures, combined with comprehensive microstructural characterization reveal that the yield point phenomenon in Aluminum‐Carbon (Al‐C) thin films originates from Cottrell atmosphere formation.

Metamaterial-based passive radiative cooling technology

open access: yes, 2022
Global warming causes temperature increase of the Earth. The efforts to reduce energy consumption by radiative cooling techniques have been designed over the years. However, radiative cooling can be achieved easily at night.

STUDY OF GRAPHENE COATING EFFECTIVENESS FOR MITIGATING LOW-TEMPERATURE HOT CORROSION IN SS630 STAINLESS STEEL

open access: yesMateriali in Tehnologije
In this work, the hot corrosion behavior of stainless steel 630 (17-4 PH) with and without a graphene nanoplatelet covering is examined during cyclic thermal exposure in both salt-free and salt-laden conditions.

Magnetic‐Field Control of Surface States in CoFe2O4 Thin Films for Nitrate Electroreduction to Ammonia

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic‐field‐assisted CVD of heterometallic single‐source precursors modulates thin‐film surface electronic structure and interfacial charge transfer. Field‐grown (Cobalt ferrite‐1T)CF‐1T films exhibit stabilized electronic states, lower kinetic barriers, and markedly enhanced nitrate‐to‐ammonia electrocatalysis versus (Cobalt ferrite‐0T) CF‐0T ...

Multimodal Perception and Machine Learning‐Empowered Human Machine Interfaces With Double‐Network Hydrogel Fibers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work develops polyacrylamide‐alginate (PAM‐Alg) double‐network hydrogel fibers for multimodal perception and intelligent human‐machine interfaces. The covalent‐ionic network provides high strength, toughness, and stable conductivity. Easily woven into wearables and integrated with soft robots, the fibers enable object and temperature recognitions ...
