Electronics in heavy engineering

Journal of the British Institution of Radio Engineers, 1949
For years after the thermionic valve had been brought to a high state of perfection, and had been the means of achieving literally amazing results in very low-current circuits, neither its designers nor power engineers realized that it was capable of rendering the same services in heavy-current engineering.

Engineering limitations with electrons

2008
The vacuum required for electron machines is determined by the beam lifetime and must be in the ultrahigh vacuum range. Since the emission of intense synchrotron radiation by the electron beam produces strong dynamic outgassing from the vacuum chamber, this gas load must be removed by a powerful, distributed pumping system.

Electronic Engine Control

1984
Electronics in the automobile has a relatively long history beginning with the installation of AM radio receivers in automobiles. There has been essentially an orderly, continuous evolution from the earlier vacuum tube autoradios to the latest complex automotive entertainment systems employing microprocessors.
