Transport Spectroscopy of a Spin-Coherent Dot-Cavity System

open access: yes, 2015
Quantum engineering requires controllable artificial systems with quantum coherence exceeding the device size and operation time. This can be achieved with geometrically confined low-dimensional electronic structures embedded within ultraclean materials,

Doping Nanocrystals And The Role Of Quantum Confinement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Recent progress in developing algorithms for solving the electronic structure problem for nanostructures is illustrated. Key ingredients in this approach include pseudopotentials implemented on a real space grid and the use of density functional theory ...

Thermal engineering of electronic cigarettes

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2023
Electronic cigarettes were developed to vaporise an e-liquid containing nicotine. In addition to chemical composition, health and safety risks are associated with the power supply.

A spin heat engine coupled to a harmonic-oscillator flywheel [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. Lett. 123, 080602 (2019), 2018
We realize a heat engine using a single electron spin as a working medium. The spin pertains to the valence electron of a trapped $^{40}$Ca$^+$ ion, and heat reservoirs are emulated by controlling the spin polarization via optical pumping. The engine is coupled to the ion's harmonic-oscillator degree of freedom via spin-dependent optical forces.

Boundary condition and geometry engineering in electronic hydrodynamics

open access: yes, 2019
We analyze the role of boundary geometry in viscous electronic hydrodynamics. We address the twin questions of how boundary geometry impacts flow profiles, and how one can engineer boundary conditions -- in particular the effective slip parameter -- to ...

Highly anisotropic thermoelectric properties of carbon sulfide monolayers

open access: yes, 2018
Strain engineering applied to carbon monosulphide monolayers allows to control the bandgap, controlling electronic and thermoelectric responses. Herein, we study the semiconductor-metal phase transition of this layered material driven by strain control ...

Quantum state swapping via qubit network with Hubbard interaction [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 73, 195122 (2006), 2005
We study the quantum state transfer (QST) in a class of qubit network with on-site interaction, which is described by the generalized Hubbard model with engineered couplings. It is proved that the system of two electrons with opposite spins in this quantum network of $N$ sites can be rigorously reduced into $N$ one dimensional engineered single Bloch ...
