A Polarization-Insensitive and Highly Sensitive THz Metamaterial Multi-Band Perfect Absorber

open access: yesMicromachines
In this article, we present a terahertz (THz) metamaterial absorber that blends two types of coordinated materials: Dirac semimetals and vanadium dioxide.

Electron properties of pharmaceutical molecules [PDF]

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section A Foundations of Crystallography, 2012
Beyond the conventional crystal structures, electron and electrostatic properties can be derived experimentally from high resolution X-ray diffraction data. For more than thirty years, this experimental approach has been successfully applied to different kinds of compounds.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Tunable Ultra-Wideband VO2–Graphene Hybrid Metasurface Terahertz Absorption Devices Based on Dual Regulation

open access: yesPhotonics
In this study, a dynamically tunable terahertz device based on a VO2–graphene hybrid metasurface is proposed, which realizes the dual functions of ultra-wideband absorption and efficient transmission through VO2 phase transformation.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Electronic properties of sculpturenes

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2014
We investigate the electronic properties of sculpturenes , formed by sculpting selected shapes from bilayer graphene, boron nitride or graphene–boron nitride hetero-bilayers and allowing the shapes to spontaneously reconstruct.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...
