Study on the potential application of electronic wedge brake for vehicle brake system [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modelling, Identification and Control, 2015
This paper presents a study of the potential application of an electronic wedge brake for vehicle brake system using human-in-the-loop simulation. Simulation was made in MATLAB Simulink software which interfaces an imaginary vehicle with a real time input from a human, such as throttle and brake input.

Modeling and control of an electronic wedge brake

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2012
The electronic wedge brake is one of the brake-by-wire systems with a self-energizing effect. It is attractive because it can produce enough braking torque with the 12-voltage system. However, the electronic wedge brake cannot be implemented unless the self-energizing effect is effectively controlled.

Design and Control of an Upper-Wedge-Type Electronic Brake

open access: yesProceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part D: Journal of Automobile Engineering, 2010
An electronic wedge brake (EWB) uses the wedge principle to provide a self-reinforcement mechanism, resulting in reduced current to the actuation motor. However, this mechanism can lead to an unstable open-loop system. In this study, an upper-wedge moving-type EWB is developed and a control algorithm is proposed to follow the target clamping force and ...

Simulation and experimental investigation of vehicle braking system employing a fixed caliper based electronic wedge brake

Simulation, 2018
This paper presents an investigation into the performance of a fixed caliper based electronic wedge brake (FIXEWB) in a vehicle braking system. Two techniques were used as assessment methods, which are simulation via MATLAB Simulink software and experimental study through hardware-in-the-loop-simulation (HILS).

Proof-of-Concept Design of Electronic Wedge Brake With Multi-Rollers

open access: yesVolume 3: 19th International Conference on Advanced Vehicle Technologies; 14th International Conference on Design Education; 10th Frontiers in Biomedical Devices, 2017
In this paper, a new braking system EWB (Electronic Wedge Brake) with multi-rollers is presented. EWB is a BBW (Brake by Wire) braking system, using self-reinforcement effect of the wedge mechanism. This effect makes EWB reduce consumption of electricity.

Robust control of electronic wedge brake with adaptive pad friction estimation

International Journal of Vehicle Design, 2013
Abstract: This paper suggests an adaptation scheme for robust control of Electronic Wedge Brake (EWB) and estimation of pad friction-coefficient. The Electronic Wedge Brake is highly energy-effective as it uses self-reinforcement. But accordingly, it can be sensitive to the parametric variation, particularly to the pad friction-coefficient.

Fuzzy fractional PID gain controller for antilock braking system using an electronic wedge brake mechanism

International Journal of Vehicle Safety, 2018
This paper focuses on the design of a fuzzy fractional Proportional- Integral-Derivative (PID) controller. The controller which is based on the conventional PID controller is modified to be P1-α I1-β D1-γ with the objective to make the controller more flexible and robust to the changes in input and the parameters.
