Electrophysiological dissection of the neurophysiological and neuromuscular correlates of freezing phenomena in Parkinson’s disease

2018
Freezing phenomena including freezing of gait (FOG) highly disturb the quality of life in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Conventional therapy, like L-DOPA and deep brain stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus (STN-DBS) cannot satisfactorily relieve these symptoms, although it ameliorates most motor symptoms like rigidity and bradykinesia ...

Electrophysiological analysis of rat renal sugar and amino acid transport

Pflgers Archiv European Journal of Physiology, 1982
The electrical events associated with the absorption of D-glucose or L-amino acids in renal proximal tubules were studied in microperfusion experiments on rat kidneys in vivo. Intratubular application of these substrates led concomitantly to: 1) a shift of the transepithelial potential into lumen negative direction, 2) a partial depolarization of the ...

Effects of quercetin and rutin on vascular preparations: a comparison between mechanical and electrophysiological phenomena.

European journal of nutrition, 2003
Several studies have indicated that quercetin promotes relaxation of vascular smooth muscle both in vivo and in vitro. However, Saponara et al. [(2002) Br J Pharmacol 135: 1819-1827] have demonstrated that quercetin is an activator of vascular L-type Ca(2+) channels. We investigated the mechanical and electrophysiological properties of quercetin and its

[Intermittent bundle branch block: a clinical model for the study of electrophysiological phenomena].

Giornale italiano di cardiologia (2006), 2014
Disorders of intraventricular conduction (bundle branch block and hemiblock) are usually stable and remain unchanged irrespective of heart rate. Not infrequently, however, their appearance is related to the duration of the cardiac cycle, so that they appear and disappear with changes in heart rate. This may not even represent a pathological phenomenon,

Hysteresis Phenomena in Transitional Zones Between Various Kinds of Periodic and Quiescent Behaviour in Electrophysiological Mathematical Models of Cardiac Cells

1991
This study deals with a mathematical model of a system composed of coupled pacemakers (PM) and non-pacemaker (NPM) cardiac cells, when electrical coupling resistance and pacemaker cell size are allowed to vary. Broad outlines of classification were provided by direct numerical simulation for discrete values of the parameters.
