Electroslag Remelting at the “Elektrostal” Plant

1991
The “Elektrostal” plant currently uses several single-phase, OKB-905-type, electroslag remelting (ESR) installations that produce two sizes of round ingots, 0.25 and 0.42 m in diameter and 0.5 and 1.4 tons in weight respectively, and an OKB-906, three-phase installation that produces 4.2-ton ingots, 0.7 m in diameter.

Thermodynamics of hydrogen in electroslag remelting

2010
Oxide ion activities in binary CaF₂ - CaO and ternary, CaF₂ -CaO - Al₂O₃ and CaF₂ - CaO -SiO₂, slags were determined by CO₂-slag equilibrium experiments at 1400°C. The carbonate capacity of these slags was computed and compared with the sulfide1 capacity data available in the literature.

Advantages Of Electroslag Remelted Steels

Offshore Technology Conference, 1977
INTRODUCTION The rigors of modern design require the use of material with high reliability. The high stresses in the complex stress states that are used in present-day structures are such that materials must be used to their maximum capability. There are two methods by which these structures can be designed.

Computer Automatization of Electroslag Remelting Furnaces

Steel in Translation, 1991
The development of automatic control systems (ACS) for commercial electroslag remelting (ESR) has been conducted at the E. O. Paton Electric Welding Institute since 1978. During this time, considerable experience has been gained in constructing this kind of system, along with analyzing how such systems function in industrial use.

Modelling Macrosegregation in Electroslag Remelted Ingots

1981
Equations for predicting flow of interdendritic liquid and macrosegregation in ingots prepared by electroslag remelting (ESR) are derived, and computer predictions of macrosegregation based on these equations are compared with macrosegregation measured in experimental ingots.

Thermal characteristics of the electroslag remelting process

2011
The thermal characteristics of the electroslag remelting process have been investigated on a laboratory scale unit. The heat generation and distribution in the slag bed is discussed. The voltage gradients in the slag bed are predicted using a resistance network analogue and tested against experimental results.

The origin of inclusions in the electroslag remelting process

2010
The aim of this work was to determine whether (ASTM E-45) D-type inclusions are a necessary component of ESR ingots. Therefore, experiments were undertaken to ascertain the origin of the inclusions. Pure iron (FVE) and electrolytic nickel were melted through CaF₂+CaO+Al₂0₃ slags, and the changes in the metal compositions (with respect to calcium ...
