Electrospray-ionization driven by dielectric polarization

Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2008
A non-conductive piezo ceramic plate has been used to induce an electric field to generate an electrospray as ionization method for mass spectrometric determination. This technique decreases the risk of undesired discharges, induced by high electric currents. The applicability of the technique is demonstrated and compared with a commercial electrospray

Electrospray Ionization Using Wooden Tips

Analytical Chemistry, 2011
Electrospray ionization (ESI) is a mass spectrometric technique widely used in various fields including chemistry, biology, medicine, pharmaceutical industry, clinical assessment, and forensic science. In this study, we report a simple and economical ESI-mass spectrometry (MS) technique, which makes use of disposable wooden tips (wooden toothpicks) for

Mechanistic aspects of electrospray ionization

Journal of Chromatography A, 1998
Abstract Electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectrometry can be divided into three steps: Nebulization of a sample solution into electrically charged droplets, liberation of ions from droplets, and transportation of ions from the atmospheric pressure ionization source region into the vacuum and mass analyzer of the mass spectrometer.

Desorption electrospray ionization of aerosol particles

Rapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, 2007
AbstractWe have applied desorption electrospray ionization to aerosol particles. Ions were formed from aerosols by merging suspended dry particles with an electrospray of solvent in a modified ion trap mass spectrometer. Dry aerosol particles were generated using a fluidized bed powder disperser and directed toward the inlet of the mass spectrometer. A

Electrospray Ionization: Theory and Application

1997
A great deal of chemistry and most of biochemistry concerns reactions taking place in solution. The development and application of an introduction and ionization technique which allows direct sampling from solution has therefore been a prominent objective of analytical mass spectrometry for many years.

Microfabrication of polydimethylsiloxane electrospray ionization emitters

Journal of Chromatography A, 2001
Microfabricated polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) emitters for electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) were implemented as tips along the edge of the PDMS device by three methods which utilize soft lithography processes. These microfabrication methods for producing PDMS emitters as an integral part of a microfluidic device will facilitate ...

Integration of electropreconcentration and electrospray ionization in a microchip

Journal of Chromatography A, 2018
A microfluidic glass chip for performing sensitive mass spectrometry (MS) is developed by integrating nanochannel-based electropreconcentration with electrospray ionization (ESI). Cation analytes in acidic buffer conditions (∼pH 3) were preconcentrated at a micro-nano-microchannel junction where a positively charged polymer, polyE-323, is coated to ...

Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry of Oligonucleotides

Current Protocols in Nucleic Acid Chemistry, 2008
AbstractBecause of the high molecular weights and thermal lability of biomolecules such as nucleic acids and protein, they can be difficult to analyze by mass spectrometry. Such analyses require a “soft” ionization method that is capable of generating intact molecular ions.

Electrospray ionization source with a rear extractor

Journal of Mass Spectrometry, 2018
AbstractA new electrospray source design is introduced by having an extractor electrode placed at 1 to 2 mm behind the emitter tip. The extractor was integrated into the sprayer body as a single device. An insulating tube was used to isolate the emitter from the extractor and to deliver the sheath gas for the electrospray.

An Electrospray Ionization Source for Integration with Microfluidics

Analytical Chemistry, 2002
We have demonstrated a new electrospray ionization (ESI) device incorporating a tip made from a shaped thin film, bonded to a microfluidic channel, and interfaced to a time-of-flight mass spectrometer (TOFMS). A triangular-shaped thin polymer tip was formed by lithography and etching.
