Treating Intracranial Abscesses in Rats with Stereotactic Injection of Biodegradable Vancomycin-Embedded Microparticles

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2020
Brain abscesses are emergent and life-threating despite advances in modern neurosurgical techniques and antibiotics. The present study explores the efficacy of vancomycin embedded to 50:50 poly(lactic-co-glycolide acid) (PLGA) microparticles in the ...

A dual-trap system for the study of charged rotating graphene nanoplatelets in high vacuum [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We discuss the design and implementation of a system for generating charged multilayer graphene nanoplatelets and introducing a nanoplatelet into a quadrupole ion trap in high vacuum. Levitation decouples the platelet from its environment and enables sensitive mechanical and magnetic measurements.

Electrosprayed particles derived from nano-emulsions as carriers of fish oil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Fish oil encapsulated submicron particles were produced by electrospraying emulsions. Emulsions were homogenized by various pressures (1000 and 2000 bar) and passes (1,2, 4, and 8).

Practical Applications of Secondary/Extractive Electrospray Ionization (SESI): A Versatile Tool for Real‐Time Chemical Analysis

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In the 1980s, researchers discovered the remarkable ability of electrospray plumes to effectively ionize gas‐phase molecules via secondary ionization. Around 20 years later—coinciding with the ambient mass spectrometry revolution—secondary electrospray ionization (SESI) and extractive electrospray ionization (EESI) coupled to mass spectrometry

Charge emissions from Electrosprays in vacuum: mixtures of formamide with methylammonium formate [PDF]

open access: yesD. Garoz y J. Fernandez de la Mora, Journal of Applied Physics, vol. 113, n. 6, pp. 064901-064901-8, feb. 2013
The charge/mass distribution f(q/m) of nanodrops and ions electrosprayed in vacuum from mixtures of formamide (FM) and methylammonium formate (MAF) is studied by time of flight mass spectrometry at MAF/FM volumetric concentrations of 5%, 10%, 25% and 50%.

Uniaxially aligned electrospun fibers for advanced nanocomposites based on a model PVOH-epoxy system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This work demonstrates the potential of aligned electrospun fibers as the sole reinforcement in nanocom- posite materials. Poly(vinyl alcohol) and epoxy resin were selected as a model system and the effect of electrospun fiber loading on polymer ...

Combining Laser‐Induced Edition to Collision‐Induced Sequencing of Digital Oligomers in a Single Gas‐Phase Experiment

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rationale To increase the confidentiality level of molecular tags, binary information can be hidden in sequence‐defined oligomers using isobaric monomers including a photo‐sensitive one, which mass can be modified upon light irradiation. Reading such secured data requires light edition prior to MS/MS sequencing, which was investigated here in ...

Electrospray characterization of perrhenate systems

open access: yesJournal of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry, 2001
The electrospray negative ion mode (ESI-) mass spectrometry study of freshly prepared perrhenate in the ammonium and alkali metal (Na and K) solutions has been detailed. The cone voltage dependency of the negative ion abundance clearly indicates that the collision-activated dissociation (CAD) process in the cone-to-skimmer region is the source for both
