Granular Hydrogels as Brittle Yield Stress Fluids

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work reports the Kamani‐Donley‐Rogers yield stress fluid model can describe granular hydrogel deformation. The model robustly captures transient rheology and self‐healing behavior for granular gels of varying composition using only six parameters. This framework provides new insight regarding the effect of material parameters on granular yielding ...

Superhydrophobic electrosprayed PTFE

open access: yesSurface and Coatings Technology, 2007
This paper shows the deposition of superhydrophobic PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) films on FTO (fluorine doped tin oxide) coated glass slides, employing the electrospray technique, using a commercial PTFE particle suspension in water. Water contact angles as high as 167° were measured on the PTFE surface.

Dual-Channel Electrospray Microchip [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry, 2013
A dual-channel electrospray microchip has been developed for electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) where aqueous samples are mixed at the Taylor cone with an organic buffer. Due to the fast and effective mixing in the Taylor cone, the aqueous sample can be well ionized with a high ion intensity.

Coaxial Electrospun ZIF‐8@PAN Nanofiber Membranes for Tetracycline and Doxycycline Adsorption in Wastewater

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
ZIF‐8@PAN nanofiber membrane with a core‐shell structure is produced via coaxial electrospinning for removing tetracycline antibiotics. The adsorption behavior under different conditions, kinetics, thermodynamics, and isotherm are studied. Adsorption mechanisms include electrostatic interactions, coordination, hydrogen bonding, and π–π interactions ...

Optimisation of a Novel Bio-Substrate as a Treatment for Atrophic Age-Related Macular Degeneration

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2020
Atrophic age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the most common form of AMD accounting for 90% of patients. During atrophic AMD the waste/exchange pathway between the blood supply (choroid) and the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is compromised. This
