The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

No anomalous scaling in electrostatic calibrations for Casimir force measurements

open access: yes, 2009
In a recent paper (Phys.Rev.A78, 020101(R) (2008)), Kim at al. have reported a large anomaly in the scaling law of the electrostatic interaction between a sphere and a plate, which was observed during the calibration of their Casimir force set-up.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Electrochemical Processes for the Formation of Hydroxyapatite Powders

open access: yesBulletin of Chemical Reaction Engineering & Catalysis, 2014
Electrochemical synthesis of hydroxyapatite particles was performed from a homogeneous solution of Na2H2EDTA.2H2O, KH2PO4 and CaCl2 without stirring to investigate the mechanism of hydroxyapa-tite formation.

Electrostatically mediated phosphorescence enhancement of micro-nano composites

open access: yesNature Communications
Organic room-temperature phosphorescent materials have developed rapidly. However, the phosphor emission enhancement of micro-nano materials achieved by electrostatic interaction were rarely reported.

Symmetry effects in electrostatic interactions between two arbitrarily charged spherical shells in the Debye-H\"uckel approximation

open access: yes, 2013
Inhomogeneous charge distributions have important repercussions on electrostatic interactions in systems of charged particles but are often difficult to examine theoretically.

Electrostatic Interaction due to Patch Potentials on Smooth Conducting Surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We evaluate the electrostatic interaction energy between two surfaces, one flat and the other slightly curved, in terms of the two-point autocorrelation functions for patch potentials on each one of them, and of a single function $\psi$ which defines the

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Effects of Elimination of α Helix Regions on Direct Electron Transfer-type Bioelectrocatalytic Properties of Copper Efflux Oxidase

open access: yesElectrochemistry, 2020
We investigated properties of direct electron transfer (DET)-type bioelectrocatalysis of recombinant native Copper efflux oxidase (rCueO) and its variants which lack α helices covering the electron-donating substrate-binding site (Δα5–7CueO, Δα5CueO, Δα6–
