Actuation and Charging Mechanisms of Thin PEDOT:PSS Films Probed by Electrochemical AFM and Impedance Spectroscopy

The actuation of thin films of PEDOT:PSS has been characterized by electrochemical AFM. A relative decrease in the actuation behavior in dependence of the film thickness has been observed. Here it is revealed how ultrasonic dispersion chemically and structurally alters Pt/C catalysts depending on carbon black type. While high surface area carbons remain stable, low and medium surface area carbons undergo oxidation, increasing charge‐transfer resistance and degrading fuel cell performance.

Monodisperse mesoporous N‐doped carbon nanospheres (MPNCs with 10 and 28 nm pores, >100 nm particle sizes) are used as advanced supports for Pt‐based PEMFC cathode catalysts. Their tailored intra‐ and interparticle porosity boosts oxygen transport and mass activity.
