Intravenous injection of elemental mercury: A report of two cases

open access: yesIndian Journal of Plastic Surgery, 2008
Two cases of intravenous injection of elemental mercury are described in this report. One patient succumbed and the other remains asymptomatic two years after the surgical removal of all the injected mercury.

Elemental mercury vapour poisoning [PDF]

open access: yesPan African Medical Journal
A 30-year-old male presented with complaints of cough, chest pain and difficulty in breathing for the past 2 weeks. The patient had no addictions and no known comorbidities. The patient has worked in a chemical laboratory for the past 4 months where they routinely use mercury vapour.

A 3 Year-Old Male Child Ingested Approximately 750 Grams of Elemental Mercury [PDF]

open access: yesBalkan Medical Journal, 2016
Background: The oral ingestion of elemental mercury is unlikely to cause systemic toxicity, as it is poorly absorbed through the gastrointestinal system.

Danger in the Classroom: Elemental Mercury Poisoning in Primary School Students [PDF]

open access: yesEurasian Journal of Medicine
Background: Mercury is a heavy metal that has the potential to exert a deleterious effect on human health. The purpose of this article is threefold: firstly, to raise awareness of the issue; secondly, to offer solutions; and thirdly, to contribute to ...

Fluxes of Gaseous Elemental Mercury on a Mediterranean Coastal Grassland [PDF]

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2019
Coastal rural areas can be a source of elemental mercury, but the potential influence of their topographic and climatic particularities on gaseous elemental mercury (GEM) fluxes have not been investigated extensively.

Beyond acrodynia: infantile mercury vapor poisoning presenting with refractory hypoglycemia and persistent neurological damage [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Pediatrics
Infantile elemental mercury poisoning is clinically rare and poses a severe long-term health threat. This report describes a rare case of non-accidental infantile elemental mercury poisoning, in which the infant was continuously exposed to mercury vapor ...

Erethism Mercurialis and Reactions to Elemental Mercury [PDF]

open access: yesCutis, 2021
Mercury is an underrecognized cause of heavy metal poisoning. Typically, mercury exposure occurs though consumption of methylmercury in seafood or acute inhalation of elemental mercury vapors, with other routes of exposure being uncommon. We describe a case of mercury toxicity resulting from intentional injection of liquid mercury into the right ...

The poisonous truth about the mercury drop test: the effect of elemental mercury on Pd(0) and Pd(II)ArX intermediates

open access: yes, 2023
The mercury drop test is a widely used method for distinguishing between homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis in organometallic systems. However, recent research has highlighted the limitations of this test due to the intrinsic reactivity of some ...

Summertime elemental mercury exchange of temperate grasslands on an ecosystem-scale [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In order to estimate the air-surface mercury exchange of grasslands in temperate climate regions, fluxes of gaseous elemental mercury (GEM) were measured at two sites in Switzerland and one in Austria during summer 2006.

Air-Surface exchange of elemental mercury in uncontaminated grasslands : determination of fluxes and identification of forcing factors with micrometeorological methods and controlled laboratory studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The burning of fossil fuels, incineration of waste, smelting of metals and other industrial processes and applications have been adding considerable amounts of mercury to the atmosphere.
