Arithmetical pluralism and the objectivity of syntax

open access: yesNoûs, Volume 59, Issue 2, Page 372-391, June 2025.
Abstract Arithmetical pluralism is the view that there is not one true arithmetic but rather many apparently conflicting arithmetical theories, each true in its own language. While pluralism has recently attracted considerable interest, it has also faced significant criticism.

Fluorescent Probe for δ‐Cyclodextrin Enables Guest Encapsulation Studies via an Indicator Displacement Assay

open access: yesChemistryEurope, Volume 3, Issue 3, May 2025.
A molecular probe that partially unfolds and exhibits fluorescence enhancement upon binding to δ‐cyclodextrin (δ‐CD) is presented. Its implementation in a fluorescence indicator displacement assay to test the binding of various guest to δ‐CD is demonstrated.

Stochastic thermodynamics for biological functions

open access: yesQuantitative Biology, Volume 13, Issue 1, March 2025.
Abstract Living systems operate within physical constraints imposed by nonequilibrium thermodynamics. This review explores recent advancements in applying these principles to understand the fundamental limits of biological functions. We introduce the framework of stochastic thermodynamics and its recent developments, followed by its application to ...

How Does Trade Policy Uncertainty Affects Innovative Behavior in Export‐Oriented Enterprise: Evidence From Listed Export Companies of Chinese

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
This paper discusses the impact of trade policy uncertainty (TPU) on innovative behavior in export‐oriented enterprises using data of nonfinancial Chinese A‐share listed companies from 2007 to 2021. TPU index is constructed using a tariff measurement method and a text mining method after China’s accession to the WTO.

A Concrete Resistivity Method Based on a Simple Measuring Cell for Onsite Corrosion Monitoring: Study on Concrete Under Varying Conditions

open access: yesStructural Control and Health Monitoring, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Concrete resistivity (ρ) is commonly monitored in situ using sensors based on the rebar‐disc (RDM) or four‐electrode (FEM) methods. This study validates, for the first time in reinforced concrete, an innovative corrosion sensor approach (CSA) previously tested only in simulated pore solutions.

Numerical investigations on the influence of the nominal hole clearance on the plate resilience of high strength preloaded bolted joints Numerische Untersuchungen zum Einfluss des Nennlochspiels auf die Plattennachgiebigkeit von hochfest vorgespannten Schraubenverbindungen

Slotted holes are often used in bolted connections to increase the nominal hole clearance.

Optimum maintenance units in multi‐indenture systems

open access: yesQuality and Reliability Engineering International, Volume 40, Issue 5, Page 2792-2821, July 2024.
Abstract This paper deals with an optimization problem of determining the maintenance units and age‐based inspection schemes to minimize the expected maintenance cost rate and satisfy a target system availability for multi‐indenture systems that have a modular structure with redundant units.

Comparison of analytical and numerical methods for estimating notch strains** Vergleich von analytischen und numerischen Verfahren zur Abschätzung von Kerbdehnungen

open access: yesMaterialwissenschaft und Werkstofftechnik, Volume 55, Issue 6, Page 719-732, June 2024.
Applicability of different notch rules for determining elastic‐plastic stresses and strains are evaluated using experimental and numerical data. Amongst the different studied notch rules, Neuber′s rule for mild notches and Sonsino′s averaging method gave best correlation with the experimental data of notched steel and aluminum components and numerical ...
