Behavioral Phenotyping of Juvenile Long-Evans and Sprague-Dawley Rats: Implications for Preclinical Models of Autism Spectrum Disorders. [PDF]
The laboratory rat is emerging as an attractive preclinical animal model of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), allowing investigators to explore genetic, environmental and pharmacological manipulations in a species exhibiting complex, reciprocal social ...

Antidepressive and anxiolytic effects of ostruthin, a TREK-1 channel activator [PDF]
We screened a library of botanical compounds purified from plants of Vietnam for modulators of the activity of a two-pore domain K+ channel, TREK-1, and we identified a hydroxycoumarin-related compound, ostruthin, as an activator of this channel ...

Memory-impairing effects of local anesthetics in an elevated plus-maze test in mice
Post-training intracerebroventricular administration of procaine (20 µg/µl) and dimethocaine (10 or 20 µg/µl), local anesthetics of the ester class, prolonged the latency (s) in the retention test of male and female 3-month-old Swiss albino mice (25-35 g

Effects of methimepip and JNJ-5207852 in Wistar rats exposed to an open-field with and without object and in Balb/c mice exposed to a radial-arm maze [PDF]
The role of the histamine H3 receptor (H3R) in anxiety is controversial, due to limitations in drug selectivity and limited validity of behavioral tests used in previous studies. In the present report, we describe two experiments.

Alprazolam modifies animal behaviour on elevated plus-maze.
Exposure to elevated plus-maze is known to evoke approach-avoidance conflict behaviour and anxiety related movements in mice. Alprazolam (0.1 to 1 mg/kg, ip) produced dose dependant increase in antianxiety response, 100% first preference to open arm, open arm entries and exploratory behaviour.

A common and unstable copy number variant is associated with differences in Glo1 expression and anxiety-like behavior [PDF]
Glyoxalase 1 (Glo1) has been implicated in anxiety-like behavior in mice and in multiple psychiatric diseases in humans. We used mouse Affymetrix exon arrays to detect copy number variants (CNV) among inbred mouse strains and thereby identified a ...

Corticosterone does not change open elevated plus maze-induced antinociception in mice
It has been demonstrated that the exposure of rodents to the standard elevated plus-maze (sEPM: 2 open and 2 enclosed arms) elicits defensive behavioral reactions and antinociception and also activates the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. We have recently reported that EPM-induced antinociception is particularly observed when rats and mice are
