Synchronization effects in the dynamical behavior of elevators [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. E., Vol. 50, 2654 (1994), 2002
We simulate the dynamical behavior of M elevators serving N floors of a building in which a Poisson distribution of persons call elevators. Our simulation reproduces the jamming effect typically seen in large buildings when a large number of persons decide to leave the building simultaneously.

Rehabilitation guidelines after autograft anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction need more graft‐specific exercise recommendations—A scoping review

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Autografts for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) are primarily harvested from the quadriceps, patellar, and semitendinosus tendons. The purpose of this scoping review was to describe available recommendations for exercise‐based rehabilitation following primary ACLR with a quadriceps tendon (QT), semitendinosus tendon (ST)

Discrete Chiral Ballistic Polariton Laser

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Planar microcavities in the strong light–matter coupling regime exhibit exciton‐polariton modes with a strong chiral response toward circularly polarized light. This feature is exploited alongside inherent spin‐orbit coupling of cavity light to generate giant discrete optical vortices in polygonal arrays of exciton‐polariton condensates.

Kevlar/Basalt and Kevlar/Glass Intra‐Ply Reinforced Hybrid Composites: Influence of Basket Weave Fabric Structure on Thermal Properties, Flammability, and Impact Performance

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, EarlyView.
This research explores the effect of basket weave fabric structure and fiber combinations in hybrid composites, focusing on impact resistance, thermal stability, and flammability. The findings demonstrate that Kevlar‐glass laminates offer superior thermal stability and impact strength compared to Kevlar‐basalt laminates.

Reinforcement Learning based Voice Interaction to Clear Path for Robots in Elevator Environment [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Efficient use of the space in an elevator is very necessary for a service robot, due to the need for reducing the amount of time caused by waiting for the next elevator. To provide a solution for this, we propose a hybrid approach that combines reinforcement learning (RL) with voice interaction for robot navigation in the scene of entering the elevator.

The Formation and Transformation of Low‐Dimensional Carbon Nanomaterials by Electron Irradiation

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
The article reviews irradiation phenomena in graphene‐ or graphite‐based nanomaterials from the scale of single atoms to tens or hundreds of nanometers. Observations dating back to the 1990s can now be explained on the basis of new results. The evolution of the understanding during three decades of research is presented, and the remaining problems are ...

Nanotubes from Transition Metal Dichalcogenides: Recent Progress in the Synthesis, Characterization and Electrooptical Properties

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This review describes recent (mostly last five years) progress in the synthesis, structural characterization, and properties of nanotubes from layered transition metal dichalcogenides, including in‐silico investigations. In the picture, ultra long multiwall nanotubes (up to 0.5 mm) nanotubes reported in Ref.

Forward Defence, Hamas‐Hezbollah War With Israel and Iran's Path to Nuclear Bombs

open access: yesGlobal Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In the wake of the Hamas–Hezbollah war with Israel following the 7 October 2023, the Iran–Israel shadow war escalated into direct military conflict. While addressing the characteristics of Iran's deterrence strategy, the present contribution argues that in case of escalation in the Middle East region, the so‐called ‘forward defence’ doctrine ...
