Launch Uncertainty Analysis Under Barrel Erosion Using Experiments and Random Matrix Theory

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The effects of barrel erosion on artillery firing performance have long been a subject of concern, but its effect on launch uncertainty has yet to be investigated. This article explores the influence of barrel erosion on the interior ballistic mechanical properties and launch disturbances.

Predicting Penetration Performance in Current and Novel Sustainable Tissue Simulants Using Quasi‐Static Compression Data

open access: yesNano Select, EarlyView.
This study has investigated the viability of using commercially available biopolymers for use within survivability assessment applications. The findings highlight the potential of both traditional and vegan alternatives, which provide both economic and environmental benefits to research programmes.

Friends or foes? Polyploidy and competition in a grassland geophyte

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Previous studies have suggested polyploids may possess a competitive advantage over diploids, due to their larger size, increased vigour or ability to better respond to abiotic stress. However, few studies have tested the effect of polyploidy on competitive ability directly, and only relatively recently has this oversight begun to be addressed. Here we

Influence of Hornification Treatment and Fiber Length on the Performance of Recycled Polypropylene Composites

open access: yesPolymer Composites, EarlyView.
Study of the influence of hornification treatment and jute and mallow fiber length on the physical, thermal, and mechanical properties of recycled polypropylene (PP) composites. ABSTRACT The growing accumulation of plastic waste has driven its reuse in the development of new composites, with natural fibers emerging as promising reinforcements. However,

The nature of the dense core population in the pipe nebula: core and cloud kinematics from C18O observations

open access: yes, 2007
We present molecular-line observations of 94 dark cloud cores identified in the Pipe nebula through near-IR extinction mapping. Using the Arizona Radio Observatory 12m telescope, we obtained spectra of these cores in the J=1-0 transition of C18O.

Energy Profile and Hopping Barriers for Small Electron Polarons at Ferroelectric Domain Walls in Bismuth Ferrite from First Principles

open access: yesphysica status solidi (b), EarlyView.
An electron polaron in bismuth ferrite needs to overcome an energy barrier to hop from initial iron site Fe1 to final iron site Fe2. Here, this energy barrier was determined ab initio for hops in perfect bismuth ferrite and at neutral ferroelectric domain walls.

Strategy for One‐Step Optimization of Metal Oxide Passivating Contact Materials for Si Heterojunction Solar Cells through Growth Angle Variation

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
A one‐step oblique angle reactive sputtering approach enables simultaneous tuning of bulk and interfacial stoichiometry in a metal oxide/ silicon heterojunction. In case of vanadium oxides, growth angle variation controls the formation of stoichiometric SiO2, ternary SiOx(V) interlayer, and phase purity of vanadium oxide, considerably simplifying the ...
