Two Coexisting Pathways to Volatility in Valence‐Change Memory Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Volatile VCM‐type memristive devices exhibit current relaxation after resistive switching, but their microscopic origin remains debated. Using pulsed measurements and a new Tunnel‐DLTS approach on Pt/SrTiO3/Nb:SrTiO3 devices, we show that post‐SET volatility is predominantly ionic, while electronic contributions—arising from quasi‐Fermi‐level ...

Spatially Regulated Lithium Plating via Li2O‐Rich Interphase Enables Durable Fast‐Charging Hybrid Lithium Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A Li2O‐rich solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) is engineered on graphite through a propylene carbonate‐based electrolyte to spatially regulate Li plating. The homogeneous interphase lowers Li nucleation barriers, promotes conformal Li deposition around graphite particles, and suppresses dendritic accumulation, enabling durable hybrid Li‐ion/Li‐metal ...

Coordinated Architectural and Chemical Reinforcement in the Crushing Mandible of a Soldier Termite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The crushing mandible of a soldier termite withstands substantial biting loads despite lacking mineral. Its cuticle is partitioned: convex teeth pair hardness and zinc enrichment with aligned chitin fibers for contact durability, while stiffer concave regions between teeth carry bending loads.

2D Co‐Assembly of Solid Acids Enables Stable Superprotonic Conduction Above 260°C

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A two‐dimensional co‐assembly strategy integrates antimony phosphate and phosphotungstic acid nanosheets into free‐standing inorganic lamellar membranes with confined acid–acid interfaces. The resulting interfacial hydrogen‐bond network enables anhydrous proton conductivity exceeding 0.1 S cm−1 at 260°C and supports stable high‐temperature fuel‐cell ...

Balancing Hydrophobicity and Hydrophilicity: Dual Filler‐Engineered Proton Exchange Membranes for Durable, High‐Power Fuel Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polarity‐matched Zr–MOFs program Nafion's nanoscale morphology during solution casting. Hydrophilic UiO‐66 preserves hydrated pathways, while hydrophobic UiO‐67 increases the proton hopping sites by densifying ionic clusters. Combining both fillers yields a membrane that delivers 176 mS cm−1 conductivity, reaches 1.46 W cm−2 under 200 kPa, and triples ...

Chitin‐Derived Carbon‐Metal Functional Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Functional carbon materials are synthesized from combination of biopolymer (chitin) and iron precursors. The resultant material exhibits superior surface area and adsorptive properties compared to carbon materials synthesized directly from pure chitin.

Dual‐Layer Conducting and Redox Polymer Bioanodes for Synergistic Enhancement of Microbial Extracellular Electron Transfer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid PEDOT/Fc‐LPEI conducting/redox polymer bioanode synergistically improves microbial extracellular electron transfer (EET) in Shewanella oneidensis MR‐1. The dual‐layer interface delivers 18‐fold higher current output and 27‐fold greater charge collected than bare carbon felt, highlighting an effective strategy for high‐performance ...

Gradient-based bearing-only formation control: An elevation angle approach [PDF]

open access: yesAutomatica, 2022
This paper proposes an elevation angle rigidity theory in both 2D and 3D spaces, and applies it to solve multi-agent formation control with only inter-agent bearing/direction measurements in agents’ local coordinate frames.

Uncertainties and errors in algorithms for elevation gradients

International Journal of Geographical Information Science, 2020
Elevation gradients are primary components of slope and aspect. Significant concerns remain when computing gradients if noise (perturbing non-DEM data) is present.

Elevation gradient of intrathoracic pressure

The American Journal of Medicine, 1957
Intrathoracic (intrapleural) pressure was measured in 15 anesthetized mongrel dogs held in the vertical position. A small balloon attached to a polyethylene catheter was inserted, without admission of air, into the chest through the 3rd intercostal space, or above the first rib, and passed down to the costophrenic sulcus.
