Observed and projected changes in global climate zones based on Köppen climate classification

WIREs Climate Change, 2021
In recent years, there has been a growing body of literature applying the Köppen classification scheme to investigate the changes in the distribution of bioclimatic conditions.

Persistent Elevated Nitrate in a Riparian Zone Aquifer

Journal of Environmental Quality, 2008
AbstractStreamside vegetated buffer strips (riparian zones) are often assumed to be zones of ground water nitrate (NO3−) attenuation. At a site in southwestern Ontario (Zorra site), detailed monitoring revealed that elevated NO3−–N (4–93 mg L−1) persisted throughout a 100‐m‐wide riparian floodplain.

Dynamic zoning based supervisory control for elevators

Proceedings of the 1999 IEEE International Conference on Control Applications (Cat. No.99CH36328), 2003
Zoning is one conventional way to make an existing elevator system adapt to different traffic patterns. However, zoning is generally either fixed permanently or static based on time scheduling where the floors being grouped into zones are predetermined during the design stage.

Multi-Car Elevator control using dynamic zoning

2013 IEEE 2nd Global Conference on Consumer Electronics (GCCE), 2013
Zone drive system is an effective way to safety control of Multi-Car Elevators. Zone is a constant range that restricts the movement of the car. So, constant zone decreases operating efficiency. On the other hand, operating methods without zone, such as scheduled operating, are able to operate efficiently.

Enhancing the resilience of high-vulnerability, low-elevation coastal zones

Ocean & Coastal Management, 2021
Abstract This paper aims to explore how resilience to climate change can be achieved and optimised within an example of a complex, high-vulnerability and low-elevation coastal zone. In Uist, Outer Hebrides, Scotland, a completed INTERREG project provided a framework for resilience planning in a complex, multifaceted environment, where official bodies,

Optimum Floor Elevation in Storm Tide Flood Zones

Journal of Waterway, Port, Coastal, and Ocean Engineering, 1983
For structures located in flood prone areas an engineering cost analysis method is developed to establish the least cost elevation of the structural floor. The least cost elevation is one yielding the lowest life cycle cost combination of flood damage costs, construction costs, operating and maintenance costs together with anticipated gradients, as ...

Elevation-Dependent Multiscale Analysis of a Complex Intertidal Zone

Journal of Coastal Research, 2013
ABSTRACT Horne, P.; Suteanu, C.; van Proosdij, D., and Baker, G., 2013. Elevation-dependent multiscale analysis of a complex intertidal zone. Coastal geomorphology is the result of many complex interacting processes operating over a range of scales in space, and multiscale analysis on relevant scale intervals can help link form with process.

Elevated-Risk Work Zone Evaluation of Temporary Rumble Strips

Journal of Transportation Safety & Security, 2011
A field study was conducted on a Missouri low-volume road to examine if temporary rumble strips could improve safety in elevated-risk work zones. This study complements previous studies by addressing several new issues: vehicles that cross over a lane to bypass strips, physical displacement of strips, and deployment of strips at an angle.

Mildly Elevated Pulmonary Hypertension: Gray Zone or Already a Disease?

Heart failure clinics, 2022
During the sixth World Symposium on Pulmonary Hypertension, the threshold of mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP) for the definition of pulmonary hypertension (PH) has been lowered to a value of greater than 20 mmHg, measured by means of right heart catheterization at rest. In this review, we aim at describing the impact of the new definition of PH,

Replicated hybrid zones of Xiphophorus swordtails along an elevational gradient.

Molecular ecology, 2011
Natural hybrid zones provide opportunities to study a range of evolutionary phenomena from speciation to the genetic basis of fitness-related traits. We show that widespread hybridization has occurred between two neo-tropical stream fishes with partial reproductive isolation.
