Elevational Distribution of Ants Across Seasons in a Subtropical Rainforest of Eastern Australia [PDF]

open access: yes
Elevational gradients are widely studied to understand environmental variability and species distribution. Ants play vital roles in ecosystems and are frequently included in elevational biogeography studies.

House Sparrows Passer domesticus increase in body size and dorsal feather insulation along a Himalayan elevational gradient

open access: yesJournal of Field Ornithology
Elevational gradients impact organisms in diverse ways because of lower temperatures and oxygen levels at higher elevations. Birds adapt to these constraints through changes in body size, plumage, metabolism, and behaviors such as elevational migration ...

Stretchable, Tough, and Luminescent Perovskite Molecular Ferroelectric Composite: Empowering Reliable Self‐Powered Motion Sensing in High Humidity and Subzero Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A flexible molecular ferroelectric composite is fabricated via in situ growth of luminescent DMAA‐MnCl3 ferroelectric crystals within a SEBS/SIS double‐polymer matrix. It delivers 7.54 MPa tensile strength, over 1200% tensile strain, durable piezoelectric motion sensing, and excellent harsh‐environment stability for all‐weather wearable biomechanical ...

Elevational patterns of multidimensional plant diversity and community structure in a subtropical karst mountain system

open access: yesPlant Diversity
Understanding the mechanisms driving species assembly along elevational gradients in mountains is crucial for biodiversity conservation. However, no consensus has yet been reached on how these mechanisms work.

Bio‐Inspired Bidirectional Winding Origami With Programmable Modular Reconfigurability and Scalability

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A bio‐inspired bidirectional‐winding origami platform enables scalable and programmable deployable structures. Double axial folding inspired by earwig hindwings and Flasher‐based hybridization create modular multilayer architectures with diverse attainable winding angles under fixed boundary conditions.

Differences in mainland-island genetic diversity in two moths suggest species-specific outcomes.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Genetic divergence along elevational gradients between mainland and island populations provides an opportunity to test the island genetic erosion model, which predicts reduced genetic diversity and increased differentiation in island populations.

Black Hole Quencher‐Enhanced Plasmonic Photothermal Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Researchers have developed a universal method to boost plasmonic photothermal conversion by attaching black hole quencher (BHQ) molecules to matched metal nanostructures. This hybrid approach increases efficiency by roughly threefold, reaching up to 69.1% in the near‐infrared‐II window.
